Hi

I've had my 11 yo female weim insured with Tesco since I got her aged 4. They've always been reasonably competitive (I check every year) and good payers, but this year the monthly premium has almost doubled to £70 per month, I can't justify it!

So the best deals I can find are through Animal Friends or Paw&Claws - not comparable deals to the one I've got now but acceptable compromises. However their feedback is awful, 'bargepole' springs to mind.

I'm not going to pay Tesco so I either go with one of these deals or I put it away each month...Any experiences of these insurers anybody?

Thanks

I'm surprised that anyone will do a new policy for an 11 y/o at all to be honest - and yes, both have a bad rep. I've personally had no problems with Animal Friends who've paid out a lot for one of mine but my experience with them through work would suggest to steer well clear as everyone else seems to encounter issues.

All my dogs are insured with Animal Friends and have been for several years, In July this year my male 5yr old Dobermann did his cruciate, I was advised after Xrays he needed an op so contacted Animal Friends and they gave me the go ahead, they sent out a form to my vet to say they would pay. Diesel had his op and Animals friends sent me out a letter saying they had paid which was with 10days of his op. As I had insured him with prime plus he was also entitled to £500 of complementary medicine which I used for his hydrotherapy. I must say they have been brilliant but I have had to dot all the eyes and cross all the Ts. They wanted Diesels full veterinary history and this did get complicated as I had had him neutered at different vets and he was vaxed elsewhere, this meant I had to ring these vets and ask them to fill in a form on line, they all did luckily but it did worry me in case they didnt do it.

The thing is you never know how Insurance companies are until you make a claim, people make mistakes filling out the claim forms or withold info so you have to be very honest, so the people who bad mouth them maybe are not telling the whole truth. Ive heard people say they are terrible payers but in my case they were brilliant and if I ever had a problem filling out the forms they were more than happy to help me.

Thanks both. I am undecided what to to do, I know it's not going to be cheap with an 11 yo, just a question of where you draw the line really. I had a quote from Petplan too which wasn't unreasonable (I insure my horses with them, they've always been fab), but of course you get less for the money but more peace of mind with a reputable company.

Hmmm....

I changed 1 of mine from tescos due to the price increase and went to paws and claws and have recently submitted a claim which they have sent back asking for her full veterinary history since we got her, never had that with tescos so will probably be going with direct line after this is sorted

Thanks for that, think it's a big fat no to both of them!
