Animals with names that don't suit them

It took 2 weeks to name Finan, my avatar, who sadly was PTS last month.
My new pony, a 4 year old dun mare, has arrived with a name so boring and characterless that she is number 10 on her passport.
Sadly at the rate I am not finding a new name she will be stuck with the boring one as they're using it at the yard.
I cannot find a name that suits because having only known her for a couple of weeks her personality hasn't shone through yet.
So as not to derail this thread any suggestions on a postcard please, via the 10000 thread. Thank you.

When I got my first cat, he was a rescue called Chester, and although I didn't dislike the name, he just didn't look like a Chester to me. 🤷‍♀️ I tried various names out for size, but the one that stuck was Oscar.

Lucky' has one the rarest forms of cancer 😂
Lucky was one of the banned names when I worked in wild animal research. The rules were:
  • Not allowed to name after yourself (though fine to name after someone else)
  • Not allowed to give the same name to two living animals (if one died, there could then be a the 2nd, the 3rd, etc)
  • No "Lucky"s (predestined to die young on the road or something)
  • Rude names allowed, but don't complain if the BBC changes it for documentaries

Not an actual name but when my vet came to vet Frankie the receptionist had put spanky on the paperwork 😳

My Jasper was called Curly when I bought him. I changed it because it's pretty bad, but my (then!) form tutor misheard me and thought I'd bought a horse named "Pearly" 🫣

I knew a horse called Anka, not so weird, but her Spanish owner called her Anky spanky and laughed when I told her what it often referred to in English.
Do you know why she was called Anka? It means duck in Swedish. Though to be fair, if I imported a horse named Anka I probably wouldn't change the name...

I called my gorgeous, absolutely stunning, Barbie pony, lovely kind soul, welsh section D “Dipstick”.

To be fair, it wasn’t a totally unreasonable name because he was very neurotic and spooky.

Aforementioned Dipstick, a 2 weeks before the horrible accident and everything that followed:

And I of course have Sausage (the bay), and Erin (the cob)! I did call Erin “cob” on here for a while, but she’s officially my pony so I’m not worried about that anymore! 😄IMG_0668.jpeg

Oh, and I have a fluffy cat called Fluff.. 100% inventive 🤣IMG_0717.jpeg

I had a lettuce.

Knew a mare called Mary whose foal was called Foaly. Still called Foaly when an adult.
One born at my old instructors place got called Spindles when he was brand new, fresh and wet with his big long legs and then couldn't ever be called anything else 😂 he had lovely breeding, proper fancy boy, could have had a proper fancy name. Spindles.

Doesn't fully fit this thread tho, I only knew him till he was weaned but he was a silly, soft, ridiculous little creature and the name was actually perfect.

OH another one from that yard was Spud. Little 13h piebald coblet. Spud like potato, must be a wee dobbin hey. His full name was actually Sputnik and he was like a rocket 😂 (I know it was really a satellite) but nobody ever used his full government name!

If I ever get a youngster, I am now determined to call it “Foaly” 🤣

I forgot, we almost brought a 17.2hh leopard Appaloosa (a truly majestic and friendly giant with lovely breeding), who was called Dennis. 🤣

I bought my daughter a pet rat and we called her "Fifi". She was an absolute charmer but was pregnant and had 15 babies, most were black/brown and white but one was a pretty champagne colour and female so we kept her. Sadly other than her colour, she had no discernable personality, never became very tame and never earned a name beyond "Baby Rat".
