Just got my insurance policy renewal through for Genie, from a rather prominent insurance company. They have put my premium up by OVER 13% for no apparent reason. I have called them to enquire and they have said about how it was a new policy last year etc... but 13%?!

So I am going to look around for quotes as I cannot afford such a large price hike... Can anybody recommend me a good company via PM? Also I know there's one to avoid at all costs... which is it?

Many thanks everyone!

which company is that with?? Have you tried seeing if you can maybe amend the cover like the sum insured etc to bring price down??

good companies are
petplan
Nfu
Amtrust

I'm with one of those named.... The only thing I could do to bring the cost down is to get rid of LOU (I have 60% LOU on her) but I'm not keen on doing that really... don't want to insure her for less either...

Im with NFU and I dont think my price has risen much if any.... but its hard to tell as I took my third party off last year when i joined the BHS......

I dont have loss of use either so that keeps it down

o dear I think I know which one you are with...

Nfu generally dont put premiums up but they did mine this year so I canceled as went up quite alot. I had some with NFU some with Petplan

I have all now with petplan who who been fab and paid out for colic surgery etc... but they have had a big price increase this year

so I insure mine for less and I dont have LOU

Try some of the others the only thing may be some may ask for a new vetting if u do have lou

NFU alllll the way, they're amazing. Both horses are with them and they always pay out, and the dog managed to get a chest infection AND a stomach bug less than a week after we got her, we legged it to the emergency vet at 10pm after she started gasping for breath, and they paid out even though we'd had her less than a week and its something she almost def had before we got her.

GO WITH NFU! xxxx

Mine are with petplan and I had a massive price hike this year. I phoned and had a moan at them as it was something silly like a 23% rise and the line they gave me was that they were having to increase their premiums in line with the increase in vet fees and to cover themselves on high excess policies. They said something about withdrawing the high excess options from then forward and that those people who had them were going to be paying a lot more for them, or something to that effect. (this was back in Jan/Feb)
The thing that annoyed me is that my vet hasn't put his prices up so that line didn't really wash with me.

I didn't want the hassle of switching and NFU won't take any new customers round here unless you change your car to be with them too

The problem with that being that the horse and car policies don't run out at the same time.

As you are aware, policies will go up every year, even if you make no claims, but 13% is a serious amount.

Which veterinary practice are you with? I've just discoverd that mine (which covers your area) do an equine insurance policy.....

Hi

Mine went up a similar amount with one of the three named above. Phoned to ask why and they were quite offish so changed company because of their attitude. If they had been more polite and straightforward I might have stayed with them as I had good service about 4 years ago when horse got abscess on face due to thorn prick.

Moved to ESIB as heard good reports, but not had any personal dealings with them (hopefully never will). Their premium is the same as mine was last year with old company.

AmyMay I'm with a different practice to you I believe! You're with Bushey/Willesly right?

titchy if you called the same company as I did then I agree... the woman was rather abrupt!

My problem is that after I made a rather large claim after Mazzie was killed last year, that some companies won't insure me. (Which is rubbish as it's a different horse and it was a freak accident!)
