How the hell do I know??? I can barely remember my

This probably happens all the time on bigger yards but on our yard we have been quite lucky that everyone asks before borrowing anything.
Like everyone I work bl**dy hard to buy my horse the stuff he has (majority of it is from ebay not new) and it really annoys me when people take things without asking.
I'm quite happy to lend anyone anything but have found that my yummy white stretch and flex boots have been used by someone on the yard

Not only are they quite grubby now but they have black tack marks on them

and DARK hair inside.
I cannot believe the cheek of some people

Sorry rant over

The majority of our yard has horses with white legs so it's not hard to narrow it down. I have an idea who it could be but have put a polite note on the board to see if anyone owns up. If the black tack marks don't come out they will be buying me a new pair

I don't want to lock things up as we have never had to before with things like boots, grooming kits etc and I am terrible for losing keys

I am extremely anal about people borrowing things, I just don't do it. Like you say, we work hard for our things and other people just don't look after them the way we do.

I don't like borrowing other peoples stuff either. IMO, if you want something, buy it.

Take my advice and lock your stuff away.

At my old yard I used to go and get my saddle and find my leathers and irons were no longer there...and had to go and find them (usually on someone elses saddle!) and feel like a thief taking them back!!!

I would never ever dream of 'borrowing' without asking! Current yard is fab though, nothing like that goes on, and as a result i wouldn't mind if someone did borrow something as long as they put it back in the condition i left it.

that would make me so cross people always take my mucking out stuff and someone broke my fork and put it back so now i have a broken fork the whole yard seems to use my wheelbarrow i feel like shouting GET YOUR OWN so I know how you feel (my mini rant over as well!!)

This sort of thing is doing my head in as well at the moment.

If anyone is reading this who helps themselves to other people's things without asking....

STOP IT AND BUY YOUR OWN STUFF!!!!!

I really don't understand why some people think its okay to borrow other peoples things, it not - plain and simple. You wouldn't pick up somebody elses coat at the yard and wear it, so why do people cross the line with horse equipment/feed etc etc.
mad.gif

I feel your frustration, attach your boots to the live mains and leave them lying around for this person to 'borrow' again.

grin.gif
only joking

I must admit to getting so p***ed off with chasing all over the yard to find my mucking out tools, buckets etc that I have left a note on the whiteboard at the yard to the effect that my equipment is for me to use not everyone else! I know I sound like a miserable old bat (well, I AM a miserable old bat) but I am at the yard at 6.30am and the last thing I need at that time is to find my stuff not there any more

Hmmm....

Well i have to say that in my boot of my car now lives:

Both my bridles
Jumping saddle
Numnahs
Schooling boots
Turnout boots

So what does that tell you?

Rest of my saddles are at home, with 1 that i use everyday in the tackroom.

I think you have done the right thing by putting up a notice, at least if they dont own up
mad.gif
which would be very dissapointing at least they won't do it again.

I'd also put a note in your tack room/box or where ever you store your bits and peices saying something like please do borrow without asking etc.

OMG, I can feel my blood boiling. I think I have an OCD thing going on. If any of my things are even moved, I go around checking that nothing has gone missing.

My name is on everything and I make sure its put away. Its people taking the P if you ask me.

I seem to have been getting on ok with the lately, mainly i suspect because hardly any of my stuff is kept at the yard in the tack room any more.

Someone once walked off with my masta summer t/o rug - it was on their horse in the field...and left their crappy rhinegold summer t/o over my door....presumably for me to use.

My masta rug then got trashed!!!! And out of the goodness of their heart they let me have their crappy one!!!!

That would make me really cross too.

I've been getting really fed up too at our yard. People keep using my long handled fork because it's easier to use than theirs, and my wheelbarrow because it holds more muck and pushes really easily. Why can't they buy their own if they like them so much!!! Also to top it all, with the tap freezing I've been thawing it out in our barn every few mornings (apparently no-one else can be bothered to do it) and filling up skips and water containers so I've got a couple of days water supply. When I got to the yard yesterday morning someone had used it so I had to spend ages thawing out the flipping tap again so I could have water for feeds etc. Made me late for work!

Lol at them using your water! That's happened to me over these last few days except my water is in a Warhorse container!

I've had to keep it in my car or it vanishes.

Being reasonable (

) I put it down to being a rare DIYer on an otherwise full livery yard and someone not knowing any better....but my stuff always got walked off with there, as did my hay... by getting munched by YO's own free-ranging ponies. Voted with my feet in the end
wink.gif

I have a large lockable wooden box that anything fairly pricey goes in.....and thats where my stretch n flex boots are...at fifty odd quid they are mine mine mine!!!!

Would not even dream of it...felt guilty borrowing my mates stiff yard brush for a few days until I could get to tack shop (mine broke) even though I always asked, and cleaned it and put it straight back....

What is it with these people??!!!

Just lock everthing from hoof pic to wheelbarrow away. Saves time Saves on hassle. That way no one can touch your stuff.
B and Q lockable green plastic shed a great investment for around £60 quid for muck out tools and lotions and potions plus grooming kit.
Hand made locker for saddles, bridles riding gear boots etc and hat.
Locked feed bin split into three compartments
For £150.00 these three items have saved me years of grief well worth the effort.
As to the water theif well they would find the next bucket tipped over their heads !
I am know as been a straight to the point type of person so in truth I dont think they would dare anyway been the wicked witch of the north

Why can't you just lock everything up. I was (briefly!) on a DIY livery yard and kept everything (except mucking out stuff) locked up in a great big trunk.

I guess I would count as a "bigger" yard and 99% of the time this never happens. I would be fuming if this happened to me - I get frustrated enough when the girls borrow my knife in the feed room and leave it with all their stuff.

I like the idea of leaving a note first but I would be wanting a new pair if you can't get the marks out. Also like someone's suggestion of leaving a note in with your stuff saying "please do not borrow me!"

No one except my husbandis allowed to borrow my horsey things without asking; and even he asks! Then, if someone asks and it is something I really don't want to lend then I say 'no'.

It is beyond my comprehension to actually 'borrow' something without asking. I would be on the warpath.
