Annoying Habits: Coincidence or Intentional? :p

I've always been 95% sure that most of the things my little mare does that annoy me, she does on purpose. People have agreed with me, while others think I'm being daft.

Since having her on box rest due to lami, however, I can safely say I now 100% believe she winds me up on purpose - I can almost see her laughing at me! :p

Preventing her from doing these things is the only way of staying sane. If I tell her off, she starts again as soon as my back is turned, or just doesn't stop at all! I still love her to bits though! :D

I'm curious to know: is anyone else convinced that their pony/horse annoys them on purpose? And have you also been told you're daft for voicing this opinion? :)
 
Mine tries to stand on my foot when I tighten her girth beyond what she seems acceptable. She casually shifts her front foot.

Used to know a coloured 14.1 mare called Heidi who squashed you against the wall when you did her girth. She also took off with every new rider and only stopped if you dropped the reins and kicked her on!! She was fab but a real trickster. I think ponies are more inclined to have a GSOH!!
 
FfionWinnie, they sound like real characters! Mine kicks her back leg up when I do her girth.. She never kicks AT me though, or she'd know about it!

I agree with the pony-sense-of-humour thing - my pony definitely has more annoying habits than my horse :p But my horse has more cute habits - such different personalities :D
 
Ours regularly goes lame - take last week for instance; proper lami stance, hence us thinking oh. my. god (long ongoing journey to soundness, cushings and lami galore etc!) - farrier got her out yesterday as we were returning on the yard from my lesson in the outdoor school - she marched across the yard, looked up, spotted us and started limping.

Un-bloody-believable!!!!

She regularly does this!

KellysHeroes, that is the worst kind of trick she could play on you! :o Could have been worse though I guess - at least you realized she was putting it on! :p

Mine stands on the hose pipe when I'm bathing her. I know she does it deliberatley because she looks down at it then puts her foot in the right place! Suprisingly she never stands on it any other time its near her...
 
My old cob used to recognise the build up to a show and be lame in show morning, he was always ok by lunchtime
 
My ponies both stand on the hose pipe when I'm bathing them, and / or kick the shampoo over etc.

My mare also stands on my toes when I'm doing her girth up.

My pony is the funniest. He undoes my boot straps with his teeth, then waits till I bend down to fasten them up again and then pushes me over. He also used to always tip the wheel barrow over when I was poo picking (he's stopped doing this now thankfully) I never saw him do it - he'd wait till I was facing the other way then I'd hear a crash, the full barrow would be on it's side and he'd be standing a bit away but near enough looking very innocent!
 
We had a hunt horse who we eventually caught on CCTV, letting himself out and then letting every other horse out their stables. By the morning they were all in each others stables. Funnily enough, he was always in the stable of the horse that got the most haylage!! Luckily, it was an enclosed yard.

We eventually had to set his stable door up like fort Knox!!!
 
I get the hosepipe one too - from the pony & the horse!
Never had the pony pretend to be lame, though she does manage to "fall asleep" when I walk round the corner with the tack, despite usually kicking the wall/standing on things/chewing things only moments before.. Ponies, eh? ;)
 
I used to know a pony who would go lame if the lesson was getting too boring. He would also go lame if he hada new instructor, in the end we all ignored it!
My pony used to kick the hoof oil over, having carefully sussed where it was, and is another to very specifically put his foot on the hose!
 
My pony does the untying shoe laces/ Velcro then either pushing you over or biting your butt when you bend over as his trick, I just carry on with them undone now, much safer!
 
Oh and we used to share a little dinky that seemed to hate me. My friend even commented, after seeing her step on my foot whilst leading her, that she actually swung her foot out to step on mine
 
I wouldn't say annoying, more sense of humour. Mine stands on the hose too. Being polite, she will move immediately when you ask. However she's mastered the art of moving the other three legs normally while dragging the hoof on the hose so its still stood on! Also very good at undoing doors. And undoes haynets & empties them on the floor. And every so often rearranges her box, water buckets moved while full & hay too.
Known two who not only threw their empty buckets but aimed them too, at certain people. And a randy gelding who would let himself & whichever mare he was into out at night. And quite a few who do stuff like untie themselves, open doors, take off rugs etc. Daughters is rugged at night when its cold in early winter/spring. If however its warm in the morning very early, she goes swimming in it. Meaning even on a wkend am if you turn up at 8am her rug is drenched with mud!
I actually love all the annoying/ amusing stuff horses do, it shows their personality. And ime with funny little things its always the happy confident ones, not nervous unsettled types so I suppose its a sign they're relaxed enough to be cheeky.
 
Definately intentional, my lad has a wicked sense of humour, he twangs elastic jacket things when I clean his feet, undid the farriers chaps while being shod, (very embarrassing) undoes his haynets, threw his feed bucket and tyre round his stable, raided the feed room (very lucky no colic), everything with him has to be doubly secured.
A TB we had used to remove his fly rug, all straps still firmly buckled, never did figure out how he did it
