...I am putting this in the New Lounge as I need to make a decision today!!

My horse was meant to have his annual booster at the start of June. Then he came down with an infection which meant it could not be done. I have now waited a few weeks since his recovery, the vet is coming out to the yard tomorrow to see another horse and I am thinking maybe this would be a good time to get Mickey's jab done.

The quandry is - Do I ask them to start all the jabs from scratch as he is over 1 yr since the last booster? He does compete but only unaffiliated and no riding club. Just unaff Dressage and showing.

Also I am wondering how it works from an insurance perspective as part of the T&C in horse insurance is to keep your horse vaccinated?

Shall I just get a booster or start them all again?? Advice welcome!!

Do you compete your horse? If you do then, basically, the answer is Yes, you would have to start the course all over again in order to keep within the rules. If you don't compete, then you would be ok just to have the booster (at least, that's what the vet I worked for used to tell people).
 
it's only riding club that demand your certificate is up to date to the day. even british dressage dont care, although you'll find you cant go to sponsored rides held on racecourses or agricultural grounds as well. you'd be better off just starting again so you're ready if you do decide you fancy a riding club event.

You may find that if they contracted tet or flu you and weren't vccinated that you wouldn't be covered tho - this is in the small print of my insurance. Not sure if it matters if there is a small gap or not. Personally I would start again just to save hassle in the future.
 
I've had the same thing happen. Spider's booster was due while he was ill so he couldn't have it done.
I've decided to start again as I'm planning to compete him & I'd rather it was all up to date so I don't have any problems in the future.
 
Yes I am beginning to think starting again may be the best option, otherwise I am always going to be worrying that I can legitimately take him to certain venues/comps.....
 
Start again is the best option and, any horse show can ask for you to produce your flu and tet vacc history.
It all comes to the amount of days best thing is to do is ask your vet.
