I don't think we are in particularly high risk area for ticks where we are in Ireland, but given that my horse had Lymes disease, we obviously do have some around the place and I am quite paranoid now about the dogs. Oral Bravecto roughly at 4/5 month intervals is their usual protection but I wouldn't be keen on an injectable form.
I am a little wary of many of these new things purely because many years back, when spot on type control was offered to us by our small animal vet we had adverse effects on 2 of our collies and 3 of our cats. Within the first 3 years of use all went blind or lost a great deal of their sight and they were all of varying ages. Our vet tried to talk down the common denominator but I still believe to this day that the regular spot on treatment was the issue. Obviously we stopped using any sort of spot on for any of them from then on. I have only had one pet go blind in old age since then, which obviously is fairly common in older pets.
I know the injection is the same thing we give orally, but I just can't shake my mistrust now until alternatives have been on the market for a long time before I will take the risk with my pets.
