Annular ligament surgery

So a quick search has thrown up a few older threads on the topic but I thought I’d start an up to date one for advice and any inspirational stories of hope.
In a nutshell my little coblet hasn’t been right for a couple of months, nothing major just not as forward and bright as he used to be and also a little stiffer behind (but he is rising 15) so I had a vet out to the yard for a once over a few weeks ago.
He failed both flexion tests, left more so and the vet left the yard suspecting a touch of arthritis is in hocks. This week he went into their practice for a full lameness work up and to cut a long story short, hocks, stifles, fetlocks xrayed clear. In fact he said his joints were like a 4 yrs old BUT they then turned their attention to soft tissues so blocked and scanned his annular ligaments which showed up tears and damage to the manica flexoriors.
They have recommended surgery which providing my insurance will cover he’s booked in for the 1st May.

I’ll follow the vets instructions of course but I guess I’m just looking for advice for recovery, success stories etc
 
Yes, approx 80% success rate pending a successful surgery with no more damage when they get in there with the camera. They said generally in the absence of other factors it’s a straightforward op?
 
You’ve probably read my replies to previous threads, but the in hand walking was the killer for me. My usually dope on a rope cob lost his mind and became quite dangerous . He was fine with just box rest, but the walking is essential though to prevent lesions.

Would I do it again? Probably, but I’d find a rehab yard or at least one where I didn’t have to walk in the field .
 
Have a look at lowton equine rehabilitation, they have a case study for an annular ligament repair without surgery......
Your insurance may cover the stay there, or somewhere similar?
