Hi all, I very much need some advice on horse transport.

I need to transport 3 polo ponies three times a week from April-September and therefore need my own transport. Last summer I only had two horse so I purchased a 1996 2.5 Diesel Auto Discovery and was kindly leant a trailer. I know have three ponies and want to travel further so need to travel all three at same time.

My plan was to have my disco, an older refurbed 3 horse trailer and all would be fine. However my Discovery has been nothing but a nightmare for me and only does around 90 miles for £20 and is costing me a fortune. It will struggle to get through its mot and basically I shouldn't have bought it (on the advice of a 'friend').

My dilemma:

Do I

a) Get the discovery fixed and see if the high diesel is due to a fault (apparently had new gear box but to me its slow to change with no power).

b) Sell it for whatever I can get for it... and buy a better 4x4 , newer with slightly better mpg and a 3 horse trailer.

c) Sell car, buy or lease a small everyday car and buy 3 horsebox

d) Pay someone to transport horses

My dilemma is I am ready and well practiced at towing so feel I could take my test by April and be totally independent.
I wouldn't be able to drive a lorry, would have to rely on mum or pay someone until I had the time & money to take the test
Also I haven't all the money in the world, am trying to start saving for a house, and pay off uni debt!!

So yes comments please? and if you think 4x4 which ones? I am 22 yrs old, female and 1 yrs no claims (meaning insurance high).

Thanks for reading.

I need to transport three polo ponies each weighing around 400kg maybe more, plus all their tack myself and maybe a passenger. I used to have a 3.5 tonne lorry and they can barely carry two and tack.

Thanks for the advice anyway. But I definitely need to be legal and safe.
