Another American 'sport'...

Couldn't watch the video as it would really upset me but I did read the info on it...its sick and hope one day its banned.

Oh but you mustn't criticise them.
They'll be along in a minute to call you names for generalising.
Because obviously we all run events which kill off horses by the score, all the time.
Not.

God some people here would give paracetemol a headache!!! Do some research and you would find out it is Indians (feather not a dot) that partake in this - the US law does not cover them, their tribal land is governed by their own law.

Look at Cheltenham in 2006 and I think you take back your comment - no track in the US would survive killing 3-4 horses per day, Del Mar redid their entire track as one meet they averaged 1 per week, which was considered far too high. Not that I approve of this race, but in 4 days of racing on average 1 horse dies per year, which compared to your meet is nothing.

Before you criticize and start gum bumping do some research -

That doesn't alter the fact that if someone so much as hints at a criticism of anything American, the mob come out in force. Any and all things British, the Royal Family, help yourself, open season, you can slate them all you like, but if for a minute you suggest the Americans did something wrong, you get it in the neck.
No nation is perfect, we all make mistakes, there are dreadful things in all societies.
Move off the subject on animals and onto the subject of how we treat children and our record doesn't look so good. But if you say that, you don't get jumped on by half a dozen Angry of Tunbridge Wells, being insulting and bad mouthing you for criticising Blighty.
I just think the 'hands off or you'll get mobbed' approach is a little bit annoying.
Blame the Indians. Very sound.

GOOD GOD!!! what the chuff is the matter with them, they have no chance of finishing without summut broken dont care about the people they knowingly go down (deserve what they get) the hill the horse is trusting the rider and for that recieves injuries or fatality!!!!! chuffin idiots!!!!!!!!!!!

What are you on about?? Seems like you want to bash Americam rather than discuss the facts of the race.

Erm....once again, yes, Americans will stand up for themselves, because all of the threads that mention them seem to generalise....take for example, 'and these guys want to rule the world!' - hmmmm.....

Come on, yes, we all rant about different nationalities...you might as well at least pick one aspect (e.g warfare, gas guzzling cars - you know, the things that y'all seem to like picking on) rather than taking them as a whole!

Race is horrible by the way

I'd rather be a yank than english

I don't think that it is fair to generalise. I know a lot of americans who would be just as horrified as anyone else in the UK at this. The fact is that the US is a contry and a continent, it is huge and people from different states and even within states are very different. I am from both the UK and the US and they each have their own faults.

Okay, I do generalise when it comes to the sins of a nation but I dont knock the individual of any race, colour or creed.I tend to dislike America and all the flag flying etc. America is so full of its 'land of the free' bullshit and at the same time treats the original American race like second class citizens and lets not talk about the people who were dragged there in chains and are still treated like trash. I could go on all night about what I dont like about the country and her politics, war record etc but I wont, most of you will know it all anyway. I do have some very dear friends who are Americans and funny enough, they have no trouble agreeing with me.

I lived in CA for 26 years, and hadn't ever heard of this race until someone told me about it a few weeks ago here in the UK. Guess what? Like most people, I agree that it's sick! Bad things happen everywhere, America is just big--the UK fits inside an area about the size of the state that race happens in, and that's far from the biggest state. The U.K. is far from free of racism, violent crime, animal abuse, etc.

You may commence your ridiculous generalisations about "my people" now.

Apparently all Americans. Meh, think I'm done reading all these America-bashing posts that have been put up lately, they just annoy me. And I feel hypocritical, as I just realised that whilst I try to spout off against generalising about people, I myself am generalising by defending Americans. America is just some land that someone drew a line around and stuck a flag in. Americans are just whoever happens to be living inside those lines, whether by accident or design, and there's a huge variety among them. I'll just toddle back off to the breeding forum to read and/or write something more constructive that feels less like banging my head into a wall.

But Morrigan is not generalising about 'people' s/he is generalising about a nation, which you kind of have to if you are going to talk about ' a nation' at all.
The USA is a royal pain at the moment. Go back a hundred and some years, to when our lot were banging on about the sun never setting on the British Empah, and we were a royal pain. Go back far enough, and the blooming Romans were a royal pain.
It goes with the territory. When you've got the most power, the most money, the biggest guns, and the most hotels on Park Lane in general, you get to call the shots, which is fun, I suppose.
But nobody likes you, which isn't.

My comment just referred to this board, where if anyone says 'I don't like this that happened in America' or 'Kuh! those Americans, eh?' (which is the Canadian version, I suppose ...) they are instantly jumped on by a mob of flag wavers, crying foul and flouncing off to bang their heads or something.

I don't dislike Americans, I used to work in the US, and l had a lot of friends there, still do, loved where I was - if I were going to generalise about the people, which I'm not, I'd say they were great. But those I know, like Morrigan, tend to agree with me about the current status of the nation.

This old chestnut again!

There are awful parts to every Nationality, the british are not exempt, and neither are tha Americans, Chinese, Polish etc.

I am actice in demonstating against any kind of equine racing here in Italy when its done in piazzas or roads. The Pardubice..its controlled like the G Nat and co and so far I havent heard of any horses racing in GB or in Europe drowning or falling down a 200 odd foot hill to their demise. So, in a few words--seeing as there is global cruelty, that makes it okay for what is supposed to be the worlds leader, America, to allow this barbaric practice to continue? As far as Im aware , in England the only thing to be thrown down a hill is a large cheddar cheese
