Hi all,
Sorry im back again! Basically my horse is currently on 1 bute/day to keep him comfy. He happily plods around his field and doesnt look to be in any pain as such-he always has ears pricked. The field he is in has 2 steep banks which he goes up toe first slowly but he has struggled with banks thats how we had his DJD diagnosed. The field has limited amount of flat areas it is gently sloped even on the paths.
When he turns he is quite stiff and very choppy (especially if he been standing a while) he loosens up when walking but still short artritic gait.
Basically I want a supplement that will help his stiffness as I dont want to put him on 2 butes/day as i dont think it is pain that is the problem..just stiffness.

Thanks in advance and here is my offering...
freshly baked muffins and hotchocolate for all who read!

I found that devils relief works well for my boy although he isn't on any danilon as doesn't yet need it. Has the devils relief along with superflex and find this keeps him supple. Plus exercise and plenty of turnout x

We have had to increase JB's Danilon to 1 morning 1 evening as he has been unable to lift one of his back legs to have it cleaned out. So for the last 4 days 2 a day and today he was able to hold it up (very low) for me to just clean it out am not sure whether to keep him on two a day or go back to one a day as vet says increase if I think he needs it to keep him comfy. We will need the blacksmith soon to trim his feet so may keep him on two a day till he's had his feet done (if he'll hold it up long enough)

Flowerlady how do u feel having to give him 2 a day. My mum is really against it. My boy is stiffer i think due to this superhard ground, he was better today after a night in, and slightly softer fields.
Karen that sounds interesting could you pm me contact details of where i can get this. As we are considering having him pts if vets say we need to increase his bute. This is why i am looking for other alternatives.
Thanks for all other suggestions.

I would look into the possibility of moving your horse to a flat field. Mine has 1 Danilon a day, I've been trying him on Nobute which has worked well, but I give him danilon every day while the ground his hard, he's ok in the winter when its softer.

thanks. He is actually now in a much flatter field. Mainly due to the fact there field is being refenced but ideally i am going to ask if he can stay there with the sheep!! haha. Thanks it is the hard ground i think he was better yesterday after a night of rain!

well here is one that i guarentee is brilliant 3 years ago my mare went stiff and looked like tying up vet said she had arthritis they couldnt even get her to trot. well i started her on cortiflex ha. it helped, then after 7 months i phoned up equimins they said Flexijoint is as good if not better cost less and you give less, he said if u have joint fluid no pain no pain u dont need pain killers. well i swapped her over tried to take her off the bute 1 day............... 2 ................ 3.............. a week............ still sound, tried her at a sponsored ride she pee off with me vets cant believe it shark cartilage is one of the key ingredients 100% rec this 4 liveries are on it now and the difference is amazing money back guarantee is what they offer as they stand by it.
my mare is 23 now and behaves like a youngen still doing sponsored rides

i wouldn't give bute long term bad for stomach you prodynam cheaper as good no harm vets always use bute and sell it as they get commission on it

Thanks will def have a look at that link. we had vet out yesterday to check him. She was impressed he was sound to trot, just stiff turning which is due to a shoulder injury. X
