What would you reccommend for a horse that evades by putting head in air..opens mouth, who is very strong and can lean in canter ? I know its schooling but need a comfortable bit to use for her, have been down the route of happy mouths and nathes, also tried bitless in hackamore and dr cooks, have tried dutch gags and pelham and she came behind the bit and just bounced, i currently have her in myler mb43 and shes better with head carriage, although can still raise and fight but she is very strong in canter and jumping(which she loves) so i have no control? I have tried kinneton noseband and grackle the latter being the best but at min shes in cavesson with fluffy noseband to encourage her to lower her head when jumping?
She is ISH and has quite a large fleshy tongue.

thanks in advance

You say that you know it schooling - sounds like that's what you need to be concentrating more on at the moment rather than experimenting with different bits and jumping - how does he go in a snaffle or a French link during schooling?
Mine goes well in a snaffle for schooling (and we have a long way to go before he can be presented for a dressage test believe me) but the difference in him with regular schooling (even if this is during a hack) is amazing - I can safely say he gets better with every ride!

we are 2 years down line and yes she goes in arena and schools... but take her out for hack or to comp etc and her head just loses all recognition of aids and she just wants to go really fast and have fun !!!

So i need a bit for hacking, jumping that may give me some brakes but one that doesnt make her shoot her head up when i try and take a contact.

She schools in the myler ok.. not perfect but its the best so far but she doesnt respect it at all when we ride in company for instance i do realise there is no quick fix bth i think me and her are going to be very bored if all we can do is school :)

Will have a google of the myler combo, does this have poll pressure??

thanks

It has poll, nose, jaw and mouth so it employs pressure to a variety of places for a horse that would lean into bit pressure alone, its worth a look, you can hire from the bit bank if you like the look of it, as theyre expensive, my very forward tb mare goes great in it

You could try the following for a short-term solution, regular schooling will help...... however, my mare is schooled in a loose-ring sweet-iron snaffle, but gets VERY strong and excitable out hacking.....

Sweet Iron 'Dr. Bristol'
American Gag
Wilkie Snaffle

Maybe any bit with a little pole pressure - but, my mare goes behind the bit if ridden in anything which has the smallest poll pressure, so I hack her in a grakle noseband with a loose-ring McGennis Snaffle

i have a meganis but iv not tried her in it yet, my instructor rode her today in myler and advised the myler wasnt any good for faster work he said keep dutch gag for xcountry and maybe myler combi or dutch gag on snaffle ring(its a striaght bar happy mouth) for sj and hanging cheek snaffle for schooling dressage !! i guess i am wanting to join the snaffle brigade but on my mare its not the kindest option as today at the jumps she just pulled and pulled so ended up slightly sore ! I dont suppose anyone on here has a myler combi they may want to sell lol :)
