Another blow for Scottish Eventing

My guess for IRF would be Scone (2)

Would they have it at a venue already having the 100RF. Would there not be people who qualified at both levels who would want a crack at both levels of regional (though obviously could only qualify at one) or is that not allowed?

I did think Scone as central for Scotland. Hendersyde sure would be deemed too far south for the Scottich regional

Have there been many new ones in that time?

I came across a programme for Badminton in the early 1970s last month. It listed all the events that ran in the country (there was nearly always just one on any given weekend:eek:) and I was amazed by how few still run. Eglinton was one I remember and I knew it had been going a long time anyway - so maybe it is normal for events not to run for ever and ever.

In Cumbria for example gone are Brougham, Castletown, Armathwaite and Carlisle (not that it ran for long) but Cumwhinton, Hutton and Eden Valley are all pretty new.

In Scotland Hendersyde would be a fairly new one I guess but I can't think of many others:confused:

Surely now BE must listen and look at some kind of reduced membership due to lack of events in one country and that the season will end in September (Only if you head to Aswanley & Burgie of course if not will be August!) and not start until April. All very well saying we can travel over the border to events but how many of us really want to travel minimum 4 hours there and back for 20 mins of competing? Just not worth it when you add up fuel etc etc.
It's great how the likes of Balcarres is going to be a new event but doesn't really quite balance up the loss of so many others.
It is a sad way how the sport is going unfortunately in this economic climate.

Its very sad when you see all these old events listed, and there are lots of them!! All these events are surely easy to reach for people in all areas of Scotland. I agree FlyingCoo it is a sad way how the sport is going in the economic climate, hopefully BE will do something about it before its to late and we loose any more of these events!!

New events would be Drumclog and Balcarress (which has not run yet)

Just over the border we have lost Ivesley, Brougham, Witton (1&2), Castletown, Armanthwait (although now replaced with Eden Valley)

Also , just remembered about Kincardine O'Neil which has also gone

The sad thing is, it's not due to lack of popularity. You can use the argument that the events further north might not be sustainable as competitor numbers drop (mainly due to closer "rival" events) but that is not the case here.
The majority of the listed events are both accesible and, to my knowledge / memory, were well attended.

Is it an event management issue or more due to BE timetable clashes?

Sorry - more questions rather than any answers :o

Aww thats disappointing. I was planning to do the BE80 there this year as saw earlier in year that they were going to run the training class this year. Only leaves Drumclog now. :(

Also Royal Deeside, Ellon, St Andrews, Glenluce, Mortonhall, Logie (I've run at all those in the past). My very first JRN was at Glenluce, it was 7 hours in the lorry from Aberdeen

Sad about Turnberry (not that I've ever been but I can dream of eventing again!) But relatively speaking, Hopetoun, Scotstown, Kirrie, Brechin (though not running this year) Floors, Drumclog, and I'm sure many others, are all "new" compared to a lot of the ones I listed above, there will always be a recycling of events I guess?
