As you may know I have a very nice mare who is by Sharola Rain Maker. Her grandsire is Goddington Hannibel so pretty well bred. She has a super temprement, good conformation and stunning paces. She also has an excellent jump.
The only problem is she cribs.
Would you or should you breed from her and has anyone bred from a mare that cribs?

A difficult one as foals do learn from their dams. I have a yearling and she has learnt from one of my other horses to chew the fencing which is really annoying.

i agree in that the foal will learn from its dam, so if it sees its dam cribbing it might start too. However i dont know about any horses whos dams have cribbed, so i cant back this up with factual findings - if you see what i mean.

Jenny used to crib if she was stressed (didn't get her feed first, had to wait after others were turned out, that sort of thing) but her foal, Stan, certainly did not and it's not an inherited thing, just a copy cat one. So it wouldn't worry me unless she was dreadful for it.

i would not have said it would be a major issue although there is a risk the foal will watch and think that its normal.
i would want to check if she cribs due to ulcers as these could be made worse during pregnancy
