Another 'celebrity display' at an equine event....

She actually lost a horse - Master Monarch - at Badminton...it broke it's leg at the water jump as I have just found out

Sure it was Master Monarch or have there been two? (thinking Andrew Hoy's ride here)

In response to the OP - I don't mind that Jodie Kidd's doing it as she's from a very horsey background and is a known face within the horse world. TPT - not quite so sure of.

Well I think this thread has been very interesting - people were really down on KP doing anything horsey because she was a celeb and whilst it seemed the opinion was it was ok for her to ride, she should do it quietly and certainly shouldn't have the audacity to do a display at HOYS. However bring in someone from a very different background, who whilst they may ride better than KP, they are primarily known for being something other than horsewomen and that is a different story - absolutely fine for them to do something which is IMO v similar to what KP did.

I actually think that it is brilliant that KP is making the horse world more accessible to a different audience, and bring it on with TPT and Jodie Kidd, I'm sure it will be entertaining. But I can see why the horse world has a reputation for being a bit elitist/cliquey/inaccessible/snobby from this thread....

As for the price of tickets to Express Eventing, have to say I agree with that comment - it is far too expensive to attract people who aren't actually horsey I reckon....I love eventing but if I were having to pay for a ticket, I wouldn't be going.

Jodie and TPT are both from well to do families and both have blue blood in there somewhere. However both have also been into horses for a long time, so its not a flash in the pan thing.

People seem to have branded KP for the stigma of glamour modelling, this is despite the fact that Jodie has been exposed, but for fashion not glamour (better class of males perving?)

Anywho - I welcome anyone famous to up the profile of equestrianism. Especially as the olympics could easily can the horsey parts as we (UK) will be broke.

As for the express eventing and JK versus TPT, its not really a fair contest as JK has kept up riding, whereas TPT hasn't (and has no where near the skill). Wonder whether we can bet on this???

and im sure that they will dress properly without a "diamond encrusted jacket" (with nothing on underneath)

is your distaste of this due to who was wearing it? I for one would not complain about this in the slightest were the person wearing it George Clooney

Andrew Lloyd Webber's missus is Madeleine Gurdon (as was) who was a Junior European event rider, and has been round Badminton back in the eighties.....so he probably knows a bit more than your 'average' theatre impresario

You learn something new every day! That makes rather more sense - how do you know this stuff?!

Like Rambo, I'm old but Madeleine used to compete a dun horse, called The Done Thing I think and it was that she named her leather jacket company after too.

They also own a lovely stud in Ireland which I've been to a few times; I met Bosra Sham there!

Full of useless information me!

I don't really understand what the problem is.... who cares whether they are 'eventers' or not.

Presumably it didn't affect anyone doing their classes as usual???
