another clipping question,

for those with cushings horses, my old lad is hanging on to his iwnter woolies very tightly at the minute, my question is a) would you clip him as he is over heating due to the fact it is getting up to 15/16c during the day at the moment and b) when would you ( i don't wanna do it now and ruin his summer coat but at the same time he only does a little bit of dressage)

i know i probably sound like a paranoid owner (which i am) but any ideas would be appricaited.
 
i would fully clip him now incl legs! then he wont get too hot in day but will need some pjs at night. his summer coat will still come through and should be ok. i have an old one with cushions and she needs clipping all year round as she only grows patches of normal coat and patches of longer coat (isnt curly yet tho!!)
 
personally I wouldnt worry about the summer coat and dressage, its normally only if you are showing to a high level that it can make a difference.
I would want to make him comfy so fully clip him out and take his legs off as well and just make sure you rug him up on an evening
 
Hi everyone. I have a 30 year old pony who really hangs on to her coat. She hasn't been diagnosed with Cushings but has a very dipped back/sagging belly and a very long coat, although not curly. She's well in herself, has only ever had laminitis once about 7 years ago and is only ridden by my 6 year old nephew on the lead rein in walk about once a week. My question is, would you clip in the summer? She does moult but her "summer coat" is still very long. I don't think i'd want to clip her over the winter but i feel she must be so uncomfortable in the summer. I have plenty of rugs for her when needed. Does anyone else do this? I've never clipped a horse after about March before. Thanks!
 
Clip now, we've just clipped our old ones, as they were getting so hot and uncomfortable in their yeti coats!!
