There's not been any of these on for a while so as I have a recent picture of my beastie standing fairly square I thought I'd put him forward to be insulted.
He is 7yo, 14hh, 8.5" bone and rather tubby as I've been busy at work so he's not been ridden as much as usual for the past few weeks. I mainly hack him.
I'll tell more about him later, maybe, if I'm not crying too hard.received_1749128752094352.jpeg

I'm no expert! But he's a lovely boy, so thought I'd comment!

Lovely kind eyes on a pony head. Nicely set on shoulders with good length of rein. Good strong legs with well set down hocks. Looks a nice riding type to suit all of the family.
Ahhh just realised this is a fun jokey thread whoops!
Yes, he has a very cheeky, plotting something look about him!!

What do you think his breeding is?
Don't spoil it if you know him or remember me talking about him.

Is he one of your Icelandics? Another who thinks he's a nice, well put together chunky pony. If any small critique is required, slightly thick through the gullet? Saying this as I like these threads and enjoy learning about conformation.

He's a little chestnut cracker. Love him!

I'll take a wild and reckless guess and say Welsh x Shetland. (Edited as just noticed his height, so next wild and reckless guess Welsh x NF)

He looks like a nice, well built, useful chap! Does he tolt or has he lost that by being a part bred?
Yes he tolts pretty well, trots, canters , paces and does things he makes up himself ?. When I hack out I tend to go along at a pretty chilled amble which is easy and comfortable, though I push him on to his more energetic tolt when the going is good.
I got him gene tested before I started doing anything with him to make sure I wasn't going to be asking the impossible of him ?

Wow! I thought Welsh Sec D x New Forest.
I'm impressed that anyone can sit to the tolt. Looks to (ignorant) me like a miniature Tennessee Walking Horse gait.
He's a lovely-looking pony. He's also possessed of a "pony-plotting-mischief" eye!

It's comfy to sit to the tolt. I had a mare at one time who always chose tolt as her favoured gait and all you had to do was watch the world passing by. So comfy and effortless she was to ride. Not all tolt with energy and leg action you see in competition, that energetic a gait isn't practical over long distance.
This lad is comfy but it isn't as effortless to him, he's not quite as light on his feet and his rhythm will drift about a bit if you don't actively ride him in his faster tolt. That said he's still a lot comfier than having to always trot.
As for plotting mischief, that's his forté.

What gaits does he offer? I mean, does he like to tolt or would he prefer to trot?

I thought he would be Welsh but I just couldn't decide on the rest of it.

If we are hacking and I'm not asking much of him when we go up a bit from walk he will go in a slightly trotty tolt that he can do on a loose rein and keep up with little effort. If I ask him to put a bit more energy in I can ask for either trot or tolt and usually get it. He usually has a pretty normal canter though when I started riding him he often went pacey but seems to have grown out of that.
Sometimes if his tolt gets fast it can go pacey if he is at all tense. He has two different types of mid speed 4 beat gait, a tolt like other Icies I've had and then if I'm trotting him uphill he goes into a 4beat gait which is always dead true 4 time but in which he has his head down and he powers up the hill like that. I haven't really had that before, my two 4 gaited Icies wouldn't ever tolt uphill, my 5 gaited mare sometimes did but not in this style. Very odd but it feels a powerful gait.
