My OH who is not at all horsey was subjected to every evening of HOYS this week. He very graciously let me watch and did not comment much and nodded in agreement when I made a comment (even though he hadn't a clue what I was saying). Then last night out of the blue, we were watching Tyson jump and he says

"Wow, he's very scopey. He really got his hocks underneath him!!"

I just gave him a big hug and said there was no going back now, he is oficially converted to the horsey fold. he's using the lingo and all!!!!!!!!!!

Well he must have heard that from Andy Austin commentating then cos they're the only two phrases he says, over and bloody over

On a better note am glad your other half enjoyed it.

Mine has started walking (small local level) XC courses with me for the first time this year as for some reason, he's really taken to this horse, and it's her first season out properly.
He hasn't quite got the hang though - the last two outings he's come out with "Can she jump that? It looks very big/wide!!" Not really what I needed to hear!

Thats why I won't be taking my non-horsey sister with me again for her comments like 'Jesus thats horrid do you have to jump that' and 'what do you do here then'

I know what you mean, we were watching abdul said come in on his horse and my OH said that looks thoroughbredy and I said oh no its warmblood, then the commentator pipes up 'yes this horse is a dutch warmblood but had a lot of thoroughbred in his line' so OH was very pleased with himself, then Geoff Billington comes in and OH goes oh its Geoff Billington... smart arse lmao

Excellent - They do secretly listen even though they pretend not to!! My OH piped up whilst watching some dressage, 'that one looks like its working well, really coming through from behind', I could have been knocked down with a feather!!!

Although was V dissappointed when he was telling me that he'd been watching the Puissance while I was out at the weekend and how great it was but didn't think to record it!
xx

My OH still calls chestnut brown... long way to go yet!

Maybe i need to take a leaf out of your book, tie him to the sofa and subject him to a whole week of horsey tv

He came up to the yard with me the other day and it was so funny watching him trying to feed Osc a piece of bread from as far away as possible, both of the stretching as far as they could.

Years and years ago, I went out with a Welshman who used to be sport mad. Many was the long Saturday afternoon when I listened to him tutting and sucking his teeth over this drop goal and that corner, this par four and that start off the grid.
Then, one day, the three day eventing was on. Within minutes he was sucking his teeth knowledgeably and hissing, oooh, you got that one wrong, Nicholson, now didn't you, eh?
It was at this point that I realised that he had NO IDEA what he was talking about, and in all probability knew equally **** all about all the other sports he had been giving forth upon.
And he was a bit of a slime ball anyway, so I cleared off.

my OH decided to take up riding so that he could go hunting with me. He said he was sick of getting cold wet feet from running with us....

what he didn't realise is that in Bilsdale country, you get cold wet feet when you're riding too!

No OH but I did convert my Dad. I decided if I was ever ill he needed to learn how to do the horse. He can change rugs (even with leg straps), hang haynets, muck out, fill water buckets, mix a feed. Bandaging and grooming is a step too far but he's good in an emergency! He also has no fear - I gave him a horse to lead one day as it was being a idiot, rearing and pulling. Dad just treated him like a big dog, and it came in quiet as anything
