I do wish she'd wear a hat though. I think she's being totally irresponisble given that she has a young family, anything could frighten her horse and she could be thrown into something a lot harder than her head!
Pink, sparkly would be fine, just worry about all the kids that will copy the no-hat riding whereas if she brought out a sensible range of pretty pink hats they'd be an out and out best seller judging by the little girls all in pink on the holidays at my daughters RS (daughter wears purple and blue, her best friend yellow and white, they're obviously 10 and it's not cool to wear pink at that age)
. i think she should wear a hat too she's not all that on a horse and the kids who look up to her will see that. i know professionals often don't wear a hat but they don't have paps following them and they don't "write" pony books for kids or have a clothing line for kids.
I wish she'd wear a hat but what can you do...? I saw lots of riders at Dublin warming up hatless until the started jumping the practice fence which is even more irresponsible IMO - seems to give the message that if you're really good you don't need a hat!
And another thing - personally speaking, if I am writing about a subject I know little about (which is rare
) and I don't know the correct terminology for things, I will either turn around and yell 'does anyone know about x, and what those x things that do x are called?', ring somebody I think might know, or do an internet search if no one knows.
It ain't hard......although I do have a colleague who refuses to use the word 'equestrian' because he thinks the readers won't know what it means, just because he didn't
flippin' townie
Can you imagine if someone wrote a piece about motorcycle racing and said 'the roundy roundy things' instead of wheels?!
Re equestrian - I was in the 'Equestrian Society' at Uni, was in the kitchen with a riding buddy in halls before our lesson once and she had a club hoody on. Cue another girl saying 'Equestrian, what's that? I thought it was some kind of religion....'
Although come to think of it, there's probably a case to be made for it to be reclassified....
