Ive always had two dogs, but been down to one for a year. Due to health prognosis Ive resigned myself to not getting another. Various friends have been trying to talk me into another one (would be a rescue) saying I could have a few years yet, whereas I would be happy to get to my nex birthday! Would it be wrong of me to get another? My present dog is registered with the Cinnamon Trust. I dont think it would be fair to try and rehome two when the time comes, but I could give a dog a lovely home for the present. What do you think ? I did consider asking about fostering, but most rescues want a long term foster home anyway. Cat not an option due to busy road, and most rescues not wanting to rehome with a dog. This has brought things to the fore again as my friend taking on a rescue greyhound !

Just tkaen a look at RSPCA centre locally, only 1 dog for rehoming, loads of bunnies, guinea pigs and ferrets !

I dont think I would if in your position. Not really fair on a rescue to settle in a home only to have to move on. Maybe a foster if suitible but again that may be difficult for you if you get attached.

I'm so sorry that you've found yourself in this predicament. My advice, for what it's worth, is to enjoy the dog you have, rather than look for another. Your current dog has an assured future. Adding another one may mean that, when you die, they have to be separated from each other, or that they "bed block", as an indivisible pair.
I apologise unreservedly if my opinion has caused you more emotional pain.

My Mum was diagnosed a year after her current dog arrived. It can be a bit of an ordeal to manage sometimes, if and when she has to stay in hospital/is too tired to even take him outside to go to the toilet after treatments, so I'd bear all that in mind.
He has SA and is a noisy traveller so he's not for just anyone to look after.
It's not easy.
