Anyhow have e-mailed her asking who she thinks the sire of dolly can be and was very pleasant about it all. Im at school so cannot ring but not sure if i should wait and see if she replies to the e-mail first ? Unlikely..... and if she doesn't reply she wont be happy with me ringing her will she ?

Gah why can people not be honest :(

I would give her a call, it's not like you'll be loosing a friend if you anoy her! You can explain that all's well, foal has lovely new home and you're not looking for anything from her other than a name/ description of the likely daddy. All she can do is say no.

I'd imagine she must know who the sire is, or at least an idea (unless she has heaps of stallions!)

I'd give it a day or so, then perhaps try calling- if you get an unhelpful reply, you at least know that you tried your best!

OP I reckon as a dealer they are likely getting horses in from all sorts of sources - so I would not expect they would have an answer for you re the stallion.

nervous of getting an earful from her though :o I honestly dont think she will care about how either of them are, Ill see if she replies to this e-mail i doubt it though. I hate speaking on the phone really gets my anxiety riled up so it could be interesting

Yes this sounds like a good idea, just worried about getting abuse over the phone :(

That's the thing she lied to us we stupidly didnt think to search phone number as she said another woman was frantic to view her. She told us she had owned Tessy ( lady then) for 2 years :(

Oooooh Jezza for horses!

Seriously though, I suspect this dealer has no idea who the dad is. What matters is that you have a lovely daughter, I mean foal, and she's happy and healthy. There's no chance the stally is going to step up to the plate or want contact, even in a contact centre. On this one Graham and the team are not needed as Tessy and Dolly have had such fab backup from you and your family.

:D Thank you for making me laugh ;)

It was naive of us to believe she had owned her for 2 years.... I would love to know who her dad is :( She is my grandfurbaby ;)

Ask your mum to phone.

I'd wait a couple of days and then get somebody to call for you. However agree it's 99.9% sure she won't have a clue. Tess could have very well come over from Ireland or elsewhere in foal and the dealer is only interested in turning them around quickly. She may only have had Tess for a few days - who knows :(

At least you know who the mum is!! :p

Just to make you jealous - if you like 'em hairy - here is the obituary for my Foul's sire. He's a local boy!

My friend's mare has been living at our place since summer, 2012. She had a foal on 2 May, this spring, by Amadeus, and she's a cracker! I did post a couple of photos of her when she was a few days old. I must get some more recent pix and post them, as well.

I was astonished when she told me that her mare had been covered by a 30 year old! Well done Amadeus and R.I.P.

Tessybear, I think amymay's suggestion, to have your mum ring the old owner, is a good idea.

Unless there is something to be gained from asking about the sire I'd walk away & not even contact her. You have your lovely girl, that's enough.

Dealer at yard I was at used to try & pass yard off as his to visiting clients (until one day he was stupid enough to say so infront of owner pretending she was help, never tried it on again in earshot) never even used to know names of horses. When people asked he just made something up on spot. Defo not a good dealer.

When I went to ask Lynda about using Andy on my mare she was a bit cautious because of his age - 29 at that time - and my mare's size (15.3)! She came over to have a look at the mare, liked her and thought she'd be nice and easy for Andy to manage, and in fact the mare proved extremely enthusiastic, which I guess helps when one party to the act is that elderly.

I'm very pleased with my lad, he's 13 months now, I wish I'd been quicker and got the mare back for another go.

Andy used to live in a field next to the school bus stop and loved the attention he got twice a day, he really was an old gent. That mane was even more impressive in real life:D
