Sorry for probably a simple question, but feed is one of my weak points when it comes to horse owning!
I'ma bit worried there is something not *quite* right with J. He's always been a bit backwards thinking but seems a bit more lacklustre and grumpy recently.
The only thing that's really changed is that I have stopped giving him a gut balancer. He was weighed beginning of Nov and the adviser said if he was on an all round balancer then he shouldn't need the gut balancer, so I used up the last and stopped feeding it.
He's also getting a bit older (16 next year) and I wanted to started giving him a joint supplement too.
Is there a supplement that would cover gut and joint or would I need to get them separately? Is it right that if he's on an all round balancer he shouldn't need any 'extras'?
ATM he's on Dengie good doer (a handful or two) and 2 cups of top spec lite balancer. (and before he was on the Protexin gut balancer)
He's not grumpy with people, and in no way is he an aggressive horse, he's just been putting his ears back at other horses more (I know, normal, but usually he always wants to 'say hello' and barely pulled a face).
I don't know it's just a feeling and i'm a bit worried
I'm going to get the vet out to give him a once over after Christmas but they're very busy obviously and then closed for a few days.
TBH the more I read on feed the more I worry about sugar levels and stuff but I find it quite confusing and hard to get my head around what's best!
