Another Feeding Question - Sorry

Been having a nightmare with my 16.3hh wb this winter.

He was really thin when I got him a year ago and I managed to get the weight on him feeing Calm and condition, Alpha A Oil and Alpha beet. Worked really well and I was pleased with his transformation.

This year (over the past 3/4 weeks), he has decided that he doesn't like Alpha A oil and is starting to go off alpha beet. He is getting Top spec cool condition cubes as well.

He is in light work ATM. He gets ad lib hay and grazing is poor. I've tried more than one bag of alpha a so its not an off bag. My welsh d gets alpha a and alpha beet and she loves it.

He is rugged up OK (not to hot or too cold) and is happy in every other way.

Does anyone have any ideas for alternatives. He has dropped weight so need to get some back on a keep it on.

you could try spillers conditioning fibre, this has little pellets in it and smells sweet, so may be more palatable.
speedibeet is another succulant good quality fibre feed, and you could look into grazon, that's chopped grass, nothing added, most horses find it more palatable than alfalfa which tends to be quite bitter. Grazon has similar protien levels to alfa oil.

I use exactly the same feed for our new mare because we cant heat her up she gets fizzy.I have added sunflower oil to her feed this week to get the extra calories and add weight do you think he would eat that, you can add small amounts at a time .
I had good results from dodson and horrel build up with my tb who was very underweight he loved the mix or cubes.You can feed just d and h build up , I had a call from them today they suggested 4 kg a day to get the weight on.You can also feed just top spec c and c if hes gone off his other feed at least you can guarantee getting the quantity down him ,you will need a balancer or supplement if you keep to c and c as its designed as a top up feed no added vits etc,

thats what i used to feed my mare exactly!

now she is on 1scoop livery nuts, 1 big scoop of mollichop (or whatever its called) speedibeet and pink powder...am/pm! and she looks fab...oh she is also rugged up quite a bit..ok alot!

Agree with LilyM - would swap the AlfaBeet for unmolassed beet and the Alfa A Oil for a dried grass product. (Actually, if it was my horse, I wouldn't bother giving a chaff, I'd soak the beet and condition cubes together to make a nice firm mash).
