Today we went into the school, I haven't jumped the beastie for about a month, and before that we had only done a few five minute sessions over a x pole or a straight bar. Today we went for broke, I schooled him around the jumps, then over a ground pole and tiny x pole with the ground pole where the second jump would be in a one stride double. I did this in both directions and then popped it up to a tiny straight bar. We came around in canter and although he didn't hesitate or back off, he did shorten his stride slightly and ploughed through the second jump with his front legs. So I gave him huge praise and jumped off, popped it up to a cross pole to make it more inviting (anticipating that he would probably back off the second time since he crashed into it). We came around at a lovely canter from the top of the school, giving him time to settle his rhythm down the straight, then round the bottom of the school and up the other length and perfectly over the one stride double, perfect striding, perfect rhythm, perfect jump.... I couldn't be more proud. He never seems to tank me to the jump, never falters or questions, goes at the pace I dictate, ALWAYS tries and I never ever have nerves when jumping him... I have absolute confidence in my baby. So today we jumped our very first one stride double and I feel like I've won the lottery
