Evening all!

Firstly, many thanks for all the sympathy and tips, both with my pity-post last week and with my last post. The back is on the mend, still hurts but ibuprofen are my friend!

First lesson: 10am on a sunday morn, I was tiiired! However, on I hopped aboard the lovely, beastly Dawi, very handsome palomino welsh D, with a violent trot and withers like a knife! Got some good (if oddly steered!) work done, nice long canters, but the back was going. THEN because my instructor loves me SO MUCH we go bareback! I am luckily given my numnah, but almost got legged up right over him  Suffice to say, not much trot and no canter was had while bareback :o Saddled up again and finished up with some lovely loong canters, but ohh how I love my schooling whip :D

Interval: The day ensues, full of leading, tacking up, untacking and mucking out/putting beds up in a ridiculously large amount of stables!

Oh... And I also cleaned my instructors tack, because I am the best student ever!

Admittedly, it was only a *deep breath*...... WINTEC!...... *exhale*... saddle, but those were some clean stirrup leathers and a shiny bridle :D Could not rescue the flash strap tho.

Afternoon helpers lesson: Took one of those lovely ibuprofens and felt better. Was on the gooooorgeous Pally! Such a ridiculously comfy trot, a joy to ride, even if she can get a bit fast  Later on swapped to Dawi for the last 10 minutes, so another helper could actually ride. as he was being a right poo! Had forgotten about my back at this point?! Had a good ride tho.

All the other helpers were so sweet, I mustve looked a bit dopey/dazed as everyone thought I looked sad! Was offered chairs, given a cookie, even got a leg up from someone at risk of her own life (Sandro has been on box rest for AGES and so is being a right muppet horsey!).

*sigh* I really do love my stables :o:D

Anyone up for a ride? Come visit me!

P.S. Any tips on riding bareback?

Hold on and hope for the best!! :P
I used to do bareback equitation at the local shows and I always found it easier to grip with my lower legs like I was trying to wrap my legs round the horse :)
Make sure you're sat on your seat bones - you'll feel them like two bones in your bum :) I found it much easier to stay steady when I could feel them :)
Sounds like you had a fab day, we told you things would get better!! ;) Well done!

Tips for riding bareback - walk or canter everywhere, trot is bloody awful! :o Unless you get one of those horses who can trot that slowly you just sit there.... :p
Sounds like you had another great day! Hope your back gets better quickly :) And you can come clean my tack for a free ride any day! ;)

For riding bareback, I tend to find relaxing, collapsing a little bit (like when riding western) and wraping your legs around the horse - but not squeezing helps.....(Also riding a flat wide back horse that is impossible to slip off unless you ride like a total numpty :p)

Trot was BAD! I didnt think I could canter tho... Canter, on DAWI, with withers like a knife up your, er, foof? No Ta!! Maybe on Albert the fatty cob though :D:D

Yay for tack cleaning! Though I do not guarantee that your bridle will still look like a bridle! And erm... Is this a ride on Big D or little D?!

Hehe, I'm going to try it out on Albert the fatty boomboom cob :D If I fall off him I will DIE of embarrassment! Also, my instructor does say she reserves the right to laugh if we fall off...;)

Aw, whereabouts where you? You shoulda come! As I constantly tell you all, we are a FAB yard! PM me when you're next around, I'd love to be Chief Photographer :D

Excuse me, mancunian here too.... ;)

haha, sit further back!! :p You don't have to sit right on top of the withers when you're bareback xD I used to ride - and jump - the pony I used to do PC games on bareback! His whole spine was like a razorblade!! Not sure how I managed tbh o.o

Errrr.... tbh, Big D is saner these days!!! :o

I grip with my knees and push myself up, using my thigh muscles - its hard I still can't get it just right, but give it a go!!
K x (and never mind ick, or I might not bother replying to your posts anymore! Joke, I love them!)

Lift from the knees....It's not that hard once you get used to the rythem of the horse - saying that i've not tried rising trot bareback/stirrupless (what am i saying, i barely do rising trot full stop, far too lazy) for a long time....May have to have a go tumoz.

I was in Dulwich..with popping in to central to shop :D, was only down for 3 days tho, but considering how cheap it was I have no excuse not to pop back down for longer....I will let you know if I do.

And of corse she's allowed to laugh, it's in the small print with her contract at the yard...all instructors are allowed to laugh when you have a stupid fall, its one of the perks :p

Ah, Dulwich is nice! Twould be nice to meet anothe HHO-er :)

I know... She does like laughing at us lot!!

Sounds like you had a great ride - no lack of confidence, you just got on and did everything asked of you - well done!!

Yeah, bareback is brilliant when you've got a fatty horse (my old mare had a back like a table!!) and lots of mane to hang on to! And as someone else mentioned I think, it is a helluva lot easier if you actually try and ride like a sack of potatoes...failing that, just exclude trot and only ride in walk and canter!!

Thanks! :D

I am going to try and ride Albert bareback, he is so wonderfully blobby and cobby, a real sweetheart when he's not mugging you for food! Aargh, canter bareback? I'll prob slide off!!

Well I did it - on the Chubby one obviously, I'm not daft enough to get on Blue with out a saddle ...and have some (rediculously awful) video footage to prove it. :D Your turn now!

It wasn't that bad, a lot easier with out the saddle suprisingly...I may have gone too far forward...and not being able to lift as high as i normally would with stirrups...smacked in to the pommel...Lets just say it's a good thing i'm not a bloke.

Oh and on a side note, My mate said theres apparently theres a really good Western place in London somewhere...You got any ideas?

Ohhh I'd love to come visit your stables!! That palomino welsh D has been visiting me in my dreams every since the photo overload!! :p

Sounds brilliant!! And no canter bareback?! That's the easiest stride for bareback.. until you come back to trot that is.. but then it's an excuse to show off those direct transitions :D

Awww sorry about your back, but at least you got special treatment for it! :p xx
