And one that has made me so angry! Have just seen this on a local horsey fb page.

Not horsey I know, I am looking to rehome my lab she is 12 and looking for a quieter life she is such a gem and gets on with people and dogs so well, my other two dogs are younger and playful, five star home wanted, would suit retired person or couple pm me

I did! The post had been up for an hour without a comment but once I had suggested it might be preferable to rehome the younger dogs 3 more people posted the same. How could anyone kick out a 12 year old!

I can't imagine, they would probalby flog their Granny for a tenner.
How, when you have had a dog for 12 years (presumably) can you not love it more than a younger dog? Or at least be respectful of its needs.

Was looking on preloved the other day, I don't know why it makes me angry or tearful, and was talking to OH about it. How did people offload their unwanted pets 20 years ago?

MM I'm feeling really angry about that post too..

this may be a mini epic so i do apologise, but if only people thought of their dogs..a couple of weeks ago in the states, a beautiful White Shepherd called Max was turned in to a kill shelter. He was 18.

A lot of frantic campaining later, the wonder that is fb dog lovers world wide pledged him to safety & he landed on his paws. He was very shocked & down & declining in condition. He had to be carried out when they released him to the rescue. He spent the weekend at the nice rescues vets and his condition gradually picked up. He then had the luck of becoming a foster fail..the loveliest lady Toby W from Leave No Paws Behind took him into her own home with her 2 gerriatric dogs. LNPB specialises in elderly & disabled or sick dogs. Toby showed him the love & warmth he needed and nursed him with love & tlc until very sadly yesterday after two mornings struggles, he lost control of his bowels & last night went to the bridge. It completely broke my heart that this all happened to him, but so pleased he got to know a short while of love & cosyness-he didn't even know what to do with the comfy bed she bought him...LNPB do have a fb page if any HHOers are interested ..tonnes of success stories & a few very sad ones too..but at least these elderly angels know they were loved & their lives matter...yes they are in the US but perhaps this horrid fb lab owner needs a reality check and a read of their page..they'd kick her into touch!

Its ok everyone..I'll shut up now & stop hijacking at a tangent..my eyes are still raining about poor Max!:o

When looking to add another dog many , many moons ago(85 ish) I went to the RSPCA at Chobam . Though approved to have a dog didn't get one but that is a whole new story . I spent a lot of distressing time walking around the kennels looking at alot of very old dogs who were themselves distressed . They all seemed to have postered drawn by children saying a combination of things but along the lines of ; The new puppy is upsetting me so I am looking for a new home . I am old and need a new ,quieter home without children . You get the gist very upsetting and made me weep buckets . Some were so doddery(sp) that a gentle ending would have been kinder . The way they drew things out for weeks with me and the fact they didn't tell people to look after their oldies were the beginning of the end for the RSPCA and me . Now I'm sure people can't do that as they are way to full . Poor dog :(.

God this happens all the time and makes me so angry. It annoyed me that the battersea program at Christmas showed someone take an elderly dog in there to be rehomed because they didn't want to walk it any more or some such excuse. And it actually did get a home probably because of the high profile telly program. But the reality is no one wants these old dogs and most of them either see out their days in the kennels or are put to sleep. But out of sight out of mind for the person who abandons it there I suppose. I know it was a Xmas program and supposed to be jolly, but I'd have preferred a more realistic message that might have made people think twice before palming off their old pets for a newer model :-((

The little dog on Battersea looked so lost when his owner left him. She used the excuse she couldn't exercise him but she looked pretty sprightly as she was walking away. Like you I was glad he found a home but agree it would have been more realistic if he had been left in kennels until the end of his days.

Think I ruined the program for my mum with my constant grumbling. Like rehoming a dog with a phantom pregnancy problem without sorting it.... I never watch programmes like this for this very reason lol

We once got a puppy that an older dog of ours just couldn't abide. Despite months of trying they were never going to get along. It wasn't fair on either. Never ever did it cross my mind that it would be the older dog to go :( Dog is still with a family friend and is very happy.
BUT WHY OH WHY WOULD YOU KICK THE OLDIE OUT :(

Feel so so sad right now.

Just thought -
She clearly has no shame in it if she's advertising this on fb either! It hasn't crossed her mind how cruel it is.

I hope this woman hasn't reproduced :(
