Trying to help a friend find a new horse. I don't think she's willing or keen to go on a mission, so she's probably restricted to within an hour or two of Glasgow.

Her criteria are:

Gelding
16+ hh (she is my size but likes them big)
5-8-ish years old
Wants to hack and jump, but doesn't need to be able to jump the moon.
Sane, forgiving, with a sense of humour, if you know what I mean.
Up to 9k budget

Presume your friend is well advised about certain shark infested waters not to fish in, in that area?

Sorta. She bought her last horse over a decade ago from a certain set of sharks and got lucky. Have advised on the wisdom of fishing there again but I think she doesn’t quite believe that they aren’t benign little reef sharks but instead great whites.

EEk!

Oh well, you can only advise & then stand back.

Would she go as far as Carlisle? GeeGee Equestrian has some lovely 4 & 5 year olds in.

That is all I can ever do. I’m trying to gently advise but not get too up to my eyeballs in it. Don’t want the yard staff/other liveries looking at me askance if it goes pear shaped. She is a bit of a magnet for drama so it’s a fine line between being a helpful friend and getting sucked into a soap opera.

We have a nice Gelding but a touch over her age limit at 9yo. Tb obviously, goes anywhere, does anything, jumps whatever is out in front of him, a lovely, lovely chap to be around. 16.2/3hh

He sounds perfect. She's determined to get a youngster. I have tried to talk her out of it. She would be much happier with something she could hop on and have fun with straightaway (wouldn't we all), but she's got it into her head that she will have a better 'bond' with a young horse.

I’d be body swerving this task if I’m honest. Means you won’t get any blame is she gets screwed over or buys more than she can handle.

I hear you. I'm trying to do a gentle swerve, but she thinks I'm like a horse buying genius because my two look fun and easy. From an outside perspective. I'm not going to gallivant around the country on viewings, but I can throw a few adverts her way and let her do what she will with that. As we do countless times on the forum. That's not saying f*ck no to helping, but I will set boundaries on my involvement.
