Just wondering, ellie my horse has always been a saint in traffic with lorries tractors etc etc, but now we have another horse which i have been asked to ride, she is however naughty in traffic :/ she spooks at lorries tractors and has been known to rear however the other day we had a lorry coming towards us i (me on ellie) has gone into a gap, mum (on other horse) has also come into it, the lorry went buy and tia has spooked and spun round, ellie never doing it before has done a little rear, i pushed her on and blah blah she did not do it again, however mum went back on tia at the end of the ride, and i carried on because tia is not very fit so i just went for longer, i went back onto the road and a tracter came buy and ellie has spun round lucky enough there was no cars coming the other way, i am hoping this was just a one of kinda thing!, but ellie today was a bit silly with a few lorries just stood there and did not want to go buy, the lorries were good enough too wait and i managed to encourage her to go by, she has always been really bold but just wondering has anyone else had this problem of another horse making another horse nervous?, maybe we were just having a stupid few minutes, when we got near back the yard there was a lorry with a trailer with hay and everything on it she there went straight buy it,

Sounds like your girl got a fright because of the other horse (if I have understood correctly). The best thing would be to take her out with another horse that is totally bombproof in traffic and slowly introduce her to traffic again (you may need to start off in the yard to make sure you are safe before you move onto the roads). Keep the other horse between her and the traffic and try to be totally relaxed as if nothing is happening. She will soon be back to her normal self, but maybe avoid taking her out with the horse tha upset her.

Yeahh you got it right

qr- naughty or scared? As with anything else you expect your horse to do, you have to train it! It is perfectly natural for one horse to react to something when another horse does because they speak the same language. And taking one horse away half way through a ride also can also cause problems so im not surprised.

I would spend time training the new horse carefully, so it learns that traffic is ok. A scared horse on the roads is not safe. It takes alot of time and effort but training a horse to do anything does!

The new one, has ALWAYS been naughty with traffic, she is scared (was ill treated), (she is now 12) I did not take my horse away from the other horse she went back to her yard which is along the way of the way back from the ride so i would of had to ride back on my own whatever happens really, i have done it several times with different horses i have ridden out with, i think its good for them to do it as well, also the 2nd time was when i went straight out on my own so i dont see how that has any revelance!, Obviously when did i say in my speech that i was not going to put the time and effort into it sorry but have i taken that post completley the wrong way?!?

My horse did exactly the same. He was great in traffic then we started riding out with a good friend. Her and her horse were worried about vans and anything bigger. My horse would react when hers did. We now don't hack out together (she has moved ) and thankfully my horse has returned to normal. Are you more worried in traffic now? Good luck !!

Yes, my post wasnt meant to be having a go. Just stating my opinion.

However, you still seem to think being naughty and being scared is the same!
