Right the horsebox obsession (sp) is now taking over!

I have been offered a two horse lorry forward facing. Present owners horse tried to get into living so horse area has been rebuilt by prof. horsebox fitter to suit 16hh horses leaving squares cut thru for heads to go over into living therefore reducing chance of horse trying to get thru
.
Finally here's my question - I plan to travel a 13.2 who obviously can't put her head thru the gap as it's too high for her - for this reason should I not even consider this box?

I think she would be fine, do you have any photos it might be easier then to see what you mean (hope that makes sence)

would there be anyway that you could attatch a thick piece of wood the otherside so she wouldnt even be able to try and poke her nose in the air through it?.
 
Thanks for reply. yes it could easily be blocked off. I suppose the only concern I have is that if she couldn't get her head over into the living she in effect wouldn't have a breastbar would this matter?
 
ahh right, not sure on that one because if you were to break suddeny she wouldnt have anywhere to lean on and it would and up bumping her head, any chance of lowering the "window" to living area?
 
That was my thought too. Trouble is I am obsessed now & driving my family mad trying to find box I like. Lowering the window could be an option.
 
im dithering on whether to by a lorry, I have been offered a 3.5 ton for a good price, but just dont know what to do, I have an ifor williams at the mo which is a tad too small, but the lorry is quite narrow so might be in the same predicament with space length ways. also got to tax and insure it, so dont know whether to just keep the trailer?
 
Hi, I have a brand new build 3.5 tonne box. It is an 04 reg Iveco daily. The box is built to carry one horse or 2 small ponies. There is living including cooker, fridge, luton that will sleep 1 or 2 people, hot & cold water, generator and has masses of storage space. The horses travel forward facing with their head over a locker like in a 7.5 tonne waggon it has been designed for me to spend weekends away with my 14.2 pony but would carry something bigger as the horse area is 7ft 6 long bulkhead to bulkhead. The living is totally seperate as in larger waggons. Not sure of your budget but could let you know the details of the company that built this for me if you are interested.
 
Whatever you decide take your time when looking. I bought my first lorry which at the time (summer last year) suited my needs but now find myself looking at swapping already.
Mine has ample payload but partitions are cr*p despite husbands hard work changing them. I haven't heart to tell him that they still don't work how I want them to i.e. telescopic.
 
I know of a horsebox transporter who had a 3.5t built rear facing though with no area for horse to put its head through or breast bar. His reason was the fact that so many go over the bar and end up in the small tack/grooms area at the rear. He hasnt had any problems with it.
 
Just a thought, you could leave it as it is and incorporate a breastbar so if you do have to brake at least his chest takes the force and not his head. I suppose the braking issues on a rear facing one isnt as bad as its the horses bum that would take any force. Im no expert though.
