I am currently looking for a nice Welsh section D, preferably a big one (over 15 hh). I have seen a nice 2 year old filly that currently stands at 14.1 hh. How big would you expect her to grow?

Thanks.

Thanks. She actually looks more like a four year old in the pictures so I'd be worried she already has done a lot of her growing. I am going to see her this week. She's not much money. I will ask about her bloodlines when I get there as she's not far from me.

My 3.5 year old is currently 15.2 but gone a bit bum high again. He was 13.3 at 6 months and is expected to squeak half an inch over 16h 😃
Let us know what lines she is.

All depends on the horse my welsh section d barely grew at all from about 2.5 years in height but he did fill out ended up at 14.3hh but was expecting 15.1hh like his full brother

I agree the bloodlines should give you more of a clue. Traditional lines like Nebo, Derwen, Parc etc tend not to be so big.
Mine is a Parc cob and at 3 measured 14.2hh, He's now 4 (5 nxt year) and measures...... 14.2hh. He's filled out plenty and I'm still hoping he's going to make 14.3hh!

I brought a just 3yr old sec d who stood at 14hh, he's just 5 now and is standing at 15.3-16hhs. Don't know his breeding though as he's an rescue.

That's HUGE for a Sect D!!
I bought mine as a five year old and he was advertised as 15.1hh, he hasn't grown upwards at all but has filled out a lot and to be honest if he was measured properly not sure he would be over 15hh.

I have two maesmynachs. They have both grown to 16.1. They were about 14.1 at 2. I have a different line as well and she only grew a couple of hands and stands at 14.2 as a four year old. She is a much more traditional stamp.

We have a Maesmynach at the yard and he is 16.1hh, really lovely boy. I have seen them for sale from he stud for reasonable prices. I understand they breed for the height.

I would never buy anything different. I buy them directly from the stud and although they can be quirky and sharp to ride they are supremely talented and a joy to own. They are also stunning. Even if I do say so myself

Yep he's a rather big boy! He's grown like a weed and only just starting to chunk out. I'm lucky that he has still got a huge eye and a very pretty head which does seem to get lost with a lot of the bigger D's that I've seen.
My other D is 14.3 now at 4.5 years and he makes him look like a pit pony!
OP he's also a dappled buckskin which is far better than a pally as you don't have to keep washing their tails so much ;)

I used to have a D by Maesmynach Majestic and he was a tad under 16 hands. Lovely stamp of a horse though, even if I did sell him on as he was a bit sharp for me.
