sorry to jump on the bandwagon...wondering how much i could get for my horse...ok here goes
16.2 ISH 8 year old. cery good looking, good to shoe, load, excellent with traffic...can be a bit grumpy in the stable. not nasty. needs twitching to clip for tricky areas.

hes quite green, and has a low mileage - we took him back to square one when he was 6 and re-educated him, which has payed off. he does beautiful dressage tests, has done pc area dressage tests(about elementry level) best score 64% worst score 68% personal best for a BD novice test was 23.4. gets 8 for paces consistantly. judges totally LOVE him!would easily affiliate - very nice to school. really concentrates. quick learner

SJ is good...done some PN this year and went clear once, and one down. doesnt stop and anything upto 3'6", but can be a bugger when its bigger...hes quite sensitive, and if you get him a bit wrong to a big fence, he looses confidence easily. would easily affilliate Sj too.

XC is the weak point...fantastic to school xc - but not very brave when cantering fast towards them - he pulls, but hes not very keen when he gets to the fence. used to have a bit of a napping prob, but thats over, now hes just spooky - very happy unnaffil 3'3" and intro ODEs but PN is a bit too much to look at...but will come i think.

hes hunted, jumped gates, wire, post and rails, hedges.
good to hack alone and in company....cant think of much else - so how much could i ask for him?
heres some photos

the gatehouse HSI one...silver - very very nice! soo comfy. got it from a local saddlery and think the only mail order place that does them is jumpers horse line...are you looking for a horse??

He's very nice

I think he probably lacks milage and would grow in confidence when jumping etc

I'd expect to pay about £6500 for him - if he grew in confidence with his jumping (I'd say that's just lack of milage) you could prob get £8000 easily for him as he looks to have great potential and is nicely put togehter

allrounder was what we were thinking - he'd happily do 3' intros all day....and would be a fantastic dressage horse, or equally a sjer. doesnt neccessarily need an older person though, i was only 14 when we bought him - improved me no end! taught me to have paitence, and how working hard pays off. now i can sit on top and **try** to look pretty most of the time!!

he is lovely he sounds very honest which is the best quality in any horse. i would guess around 3.5-4k and its nice that your very honest with the problems he has. thats what some people lack in when selling horses.

What was his history before you bought him?? Also what is he like hacking in fields / road work /farriers etc Also what sort of things does he get grumpy at in the stable - is it just that he gets territiorial or are there any other issues???

i think that might be why people would be put off though. we are very honest with people about him, because the person we bought him off didnt tell us the truth, and no-one does really - its no fun when you bring home a different horse you thought you bought!!we found anyone you ring about a horse tells you how fantastic their horse is - so why are they selling?! honesty is the best policy imo!!peple in the area know what a bugger hes been, and its not worth shi**ing on your own doorstep!!i really do think the world of him, and so want him to come good, but i want to get doing JRNs in the next 2 years, and atm hes stopping me...such a shame because hes a tidy little horse!!

we know nothing of what happened before. came from ireland...was apparently left in a field for 2 1/2 years because owner was over-horsed (found this out AFTER we bought him!) he was at a dressage yard being incredibly rushed through in order to sell him. we bought potential!hes fantastic in fields, will plod around, let you ride like a total muppet with no stirrups ect...but if you ask him to canter, he canters, then if you kick and ask for more he will really shift!!!but its not his instinct to gallop off!!you have to ask him - but if you do ask him to gallop, he is strong!!but stoppable.fantastic on roads, and good with farrier...think the one thing he has had time spent on when he was young is traffic....

I know how you feel. We bought a 15.3hh show jumper from a well known ex international rider the horse had been brought back after 2 weeks. we bought him (12yrs ago) but found that he can be a real arse in the stable biting and kicking - we did not know this when we bought him - we kept him as he could jump. Over the years he has chilled out but still can get grumpy at times (unfortunately it appears someone has beaten him in th epast so he just tries to get the first word in really).

I need another horse (one we have sold our pony) that can jump up to Newcomers height. I'm really not looking forward to the whole range of problems that my friend had finding hers with people over selling what they have got. At least if your honest teh right home will come up.

What's he been like with regard to competitions and results as a lot of people don't mind about problems as long as they know about them

well hes done lots of unaff SJ...done quite well upto 3'6" nearly always clear - really helps you out if you put him in the bottom of it. hes done some aff BE good dressages each time, 2 out of 4 he's had 1 down, but got eliminated last year early spring at first event - neither of us were ready and he napped and we got eliminated in the SJ i didnt know how to stop the napping...spent the summer doing unaff and getting him going again. did an intro easy peasy end of summer and we came 10th - because i went too slow! then we've done some PN this spring and had a couple of stops xc at each...hes just not brave. im so stuck because i truely think he could come good but my instructor who events at 4* and knows him, says he'll struggle xc beyond novice with his type of brain!(sounds funny!)but is it worth spending the next year getting him to novice then finding he wont go further?then selling! or shall i sell now, and find something else - i dont want to be defeated!argh!!

hes not kicking nasty in the stable - he is known to bang at feed time, and will put his ears back at you when you walk up- nothing truely nasty and has never bitten, or kicked...found that he tests you every time you go in the stable with him - when you put a rug/brush without being tied up on he'll barge you and be arsey but i found by being bossy and pushing him/being a bit aggressive, hed then stand like a lamb...he loves to know who is boss!!so complicated - i know him inside out!

i think between 4 to 4.5k sounds about right. Sound like he just needs more time and someone to spend time working on him continuing your work.

With regard as to what to do you need to decide whats more important - keeping him and doing what you can over the next year (sounds as though a lot of the hard work has been done already) then you can get the maximum possible to put towards another horse but you may not be competing up to the level you want to be or sell now and compete at the level you want.

he looks lovely and sounds like he will make somebody a lovely horse, I imagine a lot of his confidence issues are due to lack of mileage. I'd guess around £5-6k

He sounds lovely & looks just my type - I would love him. Am willing to take him off your hands as a favour !!!!!!

Seriously I would still expect he could fetch up to £6k as he is seriously nice as a Riding Club horse & lots of people just want to stick to Intro and Pre-Novice.

I'm sure you'll find a nice home & it's refreshing to hear someone being so honest.

I think about £6,000/£6,500
He's good looking, got a decent amount of mileage under his belt, and been schooled on by you since you brought him, done some eventing, sj and excels at dressage, can be tricky, so not a novice ride hence above price-putting him in a higher price bracket to attract the below:
I'd be looking to sell him to an very experienced hunting/PC home with a 15/16/17 yr old teenager who wants to have something to 'school on', start eventing on, do area PC etc but not be over horsed.

what a lovely horse.
i would say as described around 3-6k.depends how big an issue i found his confidence when i tried him and how much work it would take to get him over them(esp as he is 8 not just a 6yo)

yes absolutely...that would suit him down to the ground. dressage is him thing really - loves it. works really hard for you!! he hasnt napped with me for a year now. think those days are gone *touches wood* but ive found i always need lots of contact so he is secure in the rein. and i couldnt garantee he wouldnt nap with someone else on - ive found his buttons but it took me a year to find them!!
