Iv'e just had my first winter with Ruby, so was just wondering what you all thought of her condition. I bought her almost a year ago and she was a tad underweight then. She is out 24/7 and has a handful of Happy Hoof so I can give her supplements.

please note she is on a slight hill. Thanks :)

Sorry, but to my eye she looks poor. Her coat is dull and she lacks any muscle tone. nothing the spring grass and a decent exercise routine wouldn't sort.

I don't think her coat is dull, I think that's the light. Take the photos on a sunny day and she'd look different! Also her clipped/white bits probably don't shine much anyway.

I agree her muscle tone could do with building up and she's ever so slightly underweight, but lots of horses which aren't good doers are a little thin in March. I bet she'll have gained enough weight in a month!

I think calling her "poor" is a bit over the top, IMO.

She's lovely, by the way. :)

Thank you, I will pop a photo on here in a min from the other day in the sunshine, shes very shiny then! I am trying to build mucsle, but unfourtantly she is having problems with her stifle so I am only allowed to do gentle work. I hack 4-5 times a week including hill work and 1 schooling session, although I cannot do any circles.

Definatly not poor aggree lacking in muscle but she will be able to enjoy the summer grazing a good wieght to go into the summer in.

Bit too ribby but only a bit. Just a bit more covering and she will look spot on.Probably spring grass without too much will do her. She looks nice otherwise.

I'd also agree that its mainly muscle tone that needs to be worked on ... nothing a good schooling plan can't fix !!
She looks lovely :)
