Another 'I want xyz' ad will pay £500

As a seller my response to this would be "umm ok 500 must include tack, any more than this will have to be by instalments" so how in the name of all that is holy is she then going to keep it in feed, hay, shoes, insurance, equipment, entry fees etc etc etc etc. Not even getting into the fact that a 5-8 year old who can jump and do x-country is going to be at least 4 times what she is willing to pay....crazy just crazy

Actually looking at some of the ads around she might get lucky.

There are horses out there for £500 at the moment.

Even on the sites that were decent.

Was looking at the sold prices at a sale the other day 320 guineas for a teenage hunter

Rather bizarre height requirements? happy with 14.3 or 17hh?! sounds more like dodgy dealer. I actually had a pony for sale a year ago for 500 with tack - someone wanted him but also wanted me to deliver him 100 miles away. I reluctantly said I would but very busy and they would have to pay £50 delivery. They said they would try and find cheaper transport as couldn't afford! Needless to say he didn't go and my thoughts were similar to those posted - if they couldn't afford £50 for the transport they couldn't afford to keep a pony. Happily he is still with us and one of my daughters is having a ball with him - lucky escape!

Not quite as bad as the teenager looking for a PART loan, but demanding people move to her yard, emphasising in her ad I WILL NOT MOVE YARDS!!!!!!!!

I desperately wanted to give her some guidance but decided discretion was the better part of valor!

its not just ponies;

the most recent one ive read is stable matting - wanted free! wtf?

im paying 30 quid a mat and peoplet think they can have it free!?

Classic....I admire your self control ;-)

Unbelievable
Mind you, there ARE an awful lot of these ads from people wanting cheap or free horses.
I'm trying to sell my 4yo Welsh D mare, and I've priced her at an amount that should hopefully put these types off.
I bought a SADDLE for £500, never mind a horse .

There is a wanted advert on Project Horses.

The advertiser wants a Quarter Horse over 14.2 'free to good home' and states 'Will travel to a certain extent but would be easier for you to drop off'

I put a mare up for sale as a broodmare due to behavioural issues (which I have since rerained and she's just started competing). She was 7yrs 16.2 tb, I had quite a few people ringing me up offering £50! even tho they had their own yards and stallions ect, I rather politely asked them if they were having a laugh and promptly removed advert. so this type of ad doesn't suprise me at all.

Thought I better add her behaviour was just due to being broken incorrectly and I'd jus lost my mum and wasn't up for rebreaking. Wouldn't have offered her as broodmare otherwise. As it is am so glad I didn't manage to sell her she's a superstar!

The really scary thing is that these people with the cheek to put adverts like this out there often do get what they've asked for! I've seen it happen!

Where do these brazen people come from?

I have owned 4 horses (5 if u count my loan One the owner tried to give.me but I helped regime for £1 - def worth more thi as I had fixed him by then!), and only paid for one of them, at £500 inc tack and rugs. Most have been through friends of friends who didn't know wot else to do, as horses had lameness or fairly major behavioural issues. I have put adds up for friends to and got a lot of responses, but mainly tbs that needs new homes.
However I think my criteria have been more generic, I have my own tack I can part x if needed (although prob half came with tack), and I'm not scared of s change generally!

I have had to make tough decisions along the way, after 2.5 yrs battling with weight issue my old TB hat to b pts. Mare with sever behav issues, got kicked and got bone and bog spavin, and someone local asked to have her as a companion only. Which I know will b the case. Pony was rrhomed after a year of rehab. Day to day improved, but behaviour got worse when I had to move to grazing only and grazing, no yard. He needed regular handling and a routine I couldn't at that time. And I still have my stubbourn, squealy mare 5 yrs on, pain but I love her!! I am now in a position again to have a second horse, and hopefully she is coming tonight. She will b free, small donation for saddle, rugs. However will start from scratch....

I think.in hind site I wouldn't have had some of these horses now or may.have pts rather than rehoming, as their behaviour wasn't going to get much better and whilst I could manage it with correct facilities available, I do think they end up getting passed around and could b dangerous in the wrong hands!

[shrug] I don't really get what is so bad about that advert. I'd much rather someone posted a 'wanted' ad of this ilk that you can either smile at & ignore or call if you've got the right horse - & in her defence she does also say to loan.
What I can't abide are the people who call or even come & try then tell you their minuscule budgets.

And for those of you thinking she is off her head, parts of the horse market are on its arse. I got a 6 yr old 16.2hh ex-racer, stunning to look at, moves like stink & starting so show he is brilliant jumper. He is vice free & sound as you like. He will be affiliated eventing later this year. He came with all his rugs, some tack, boots, grooming kit & rubber matting. He cost me £5
My other boy who is also an ex-racer. Done BD dressage, BE eventung (novice), BS (discovery). Safe, sane & sound. Well he nearly broke the bank at £100 :D

Let's all respond, get the stupid person to drive miles to view and spend her £500 on fuel.

This post makes you look like a really mean, nasty, pathetic person. Whats wrong with someone putting an ad up for something they are unlikely to achieve? Why is it a problem for you to the extent that you want to ring them and waste their money on fuel. Thats unbelievable.
