yes just once
she's has become very grumpy when tacking up (coud just be because she's a mare) but not sure, back lady is coming tomorrow have tried calling saddle fitter who sold me saddle in may but awaiting a return call at mo
teeth were done 4 months ago
I'm no expert - but I would say it needs looking at - it looks as though there are areas towards the front of the saddle that its not making a consistent contact. I would think that there should be even dirt marks inside the saddlecloth - not those clean holes in the middle.
Also looks like much deeper coloured marks at the very front edge of the saddle.
Ha not cleaned it yet lol, ok i'll let you in on a secret I have noticed back of saddle lifts up in trot etc til it's been on awhile and then it sits down more at back (hope that makes sense) hence trying to get hold of saddler and getting back done
just wondered what others thought.
I think the front of saddle contacts all the time but perhaps too much pressure at front hence pushing all dirt out front of saddle??
hmmm... the big white patches might make you go 'eek'...
... but, logically, we KNOW the saddle IS making contact where the white areas are... because it's the main body of the saddle. if it wasn't touching, you'd have been floating.
so, instead, we'll have to assume that the white patched were making contact. they're just cleaner because there wasn't any/much movement. whereas the darker areas are where movement HAS occured - eg at the front and back. you would expect some movement in both places (horses are moving creatures, you need the saddle to move a bit to make it comfy for them!). the front is from where the scapula (like our shoulder blade) has moved around. and the back is, like you say, where it's moved on the back area.
looking at it, i'd ask to you check that when you put the saddle on, the 'points' sit well clear of the scapula (about 3cms behind).
otherwise there's not much else that can be told from the pic, i don't think. if you're in anyway concerned, get your fitter out. it may be that your new saddle fitted lovely, and gave your horse a chance to muscle up underneath in a way he hadn't been able to before, so now it's not such a good fit?
Yes that's what I thought CCP that's again muscled up more, will have a look at it tomorrow with no saddlecloth, also back lady out tomorrow will see what she says and will try again to get hold of a saddler sorry sent you a pm
I suspect your saddle is bridging - touching at the front and back and not really touching under the waist ( the middle) and causing serious pressure front and rear. I suspect it is too narrow. This could be because your horse has muscled up since it was fitted. Put your saddle on your horse without a cloth. Girth up tight then run your hands under the panels, I suspect you would find it was very tight at the front and at teh back and you can easily slide your hand under the middle.
i wouldnt be overly happy, and would get it checked, though the whiter bits could just be indicating that the horse was cleaner in these parts. i think the fact that your horse was obviously dirty (??!!) isnt giving you a true picture. there is a saddler chap called barry who scans your saddle when you are sat on it to see if there is excessive pressure in any one place. personally i would get your saddle checked for fit, yes i agree it might be bridging between front and back, and tight on the shoulders.
