Quick background; my pony has had tendon and pedal bone injuries over the past few years resulting in about 9 month of box rest in total.
Recently she has been getting worse to school and finding bending extremely difficult, so today we ad the chiropractor out to look at her back. Chiropractor is also a vet and when I trotted her up thought she was slightly short behind. She flexed her and she became properly lame, suspecting arthritis in the hocks :( :(
Plan is to get her taken for xrays and diagnosis asap, does anyone have any experience with this type of thing, recovery time, outlook etc? She is 15 so getting on a bit which won't help.
I'm just gutted, every time things are going well something like this happens :(

One of mine has ringbone, the other bone spavin.....so I kind of feel your pain. I tend to do the normal....find a good supplement that works for you guys, a good bit of turn out, a good bit of rest in a stable daily and carrying on with their work that they can cope with...I warm up for longer and cool down for longer...magnetic leg wraps in winter, just keeping them moving really! I still compete one and quite happily hack the other daily....arthiritus is not the end....just a new management plan....chin up chuck ;)

my mare was diagnosed with this 15 months ago, mild changes, but alongside hers she also had damage to the collateral ligament of the coffin joint. anyway cutting a long story short, medication of the joints (cortisone), regular, gentle execise to keep the joints moving and feeding the loading dose (on a permanent basis) of vetvits equiflex seems to have done the trick and my mare is now coming back into full work. She's 16 btw. good luck x
