Hello,

Really sorry for another insurance company question I cant find the other posts.

I am hoping to be buying a 5year old tb soon (subject to vetting) So I am looking around at quotes whilst I hope she passes a vetting.

So what is the best insurance company? and also as I will be buying her (subject to vetting) if I take insurance out when I buy her or w.e horse in the future do I send any documents off? Ifso what documents?

Sorry for the stupid questions, my mum usually does all the insurance etc.

:) Thank you in advance!!

Hi, I'm with KBIS and have been for the past 8 or so years. I pay £33 a month for my horse- this is pretty comprehensive insurance and is the highest 'band' for vets fees.
I claimed for laminitis a couple of years ago and they were great- really friendly and paid very quickly. I'd definately recommend them.

I think that they requested a copy of the vetting paperwork when I insured my horse to begin with and I filled in a declaration of health.

I hope all goes well and the horse passes the vetting! :)

Hi i am with E & L and have been for 8 years, as well as trailer insurance and my Mums rider only insurance - you hear A LOT of horror stories about them but to be fair i am in the middle of a big vet claim with them (and have also claimed with my old horse in the past) and they are paying up very quickly. I dont think they are as bad as previous stories would tell they are; so i would (judging on my experience!) recommend them. I didnt send any documents off when i bought my mare as i didnt get her vetted, but you will get a vet certificate upon vetting to send to whichever insurance company you choose. Its worth checking out a few and im sure on their websites they will tell you what if any documentation they require.

Hope that helps

Maybe they've gotten better or had too many ding dong's with the financial ombudsmen!!! But I know of at least 3 people who have had claims refused! From their Leisure side to the pets. The claims were caravan theft... dog vet claim... horse vet claim...

I'm currently with rural insurance and will tell you next week if they are any good at paying out as am waiting on a claim currently for vets fees!!!

I was with E&L and although I never claimed, they really annoyed me when I cancelled last month.

I emailed them to request the cancellation of my policy and asked for confirmation of this in email also.

Didn't hear anything from them for a week, so called them. The insurance had been cancelled on the day and they had sent me a letter to let me know. The later turned up 2 weeks (!!!) after I had requested to cancel.

If I hadn't called, Harry would have been uninsured for 2 weeks and I wouldn't have known, so if anything had happened to him, I would have been screwed!!

So yes, they REALLY annoyed me with that. I've just moved to KBIS due to recommendations from here and a really good quote for most comprehensive vet fees for leisure ponies and under cutting my E&L cost anyways, also used 15% discount code for July and now pay £27 a month for vets fees, public liability, personal liability and the value I wanted. They sorted the cover within the hour of me placing the order so very good start from my point of view :)

Try AmTrust, I have heard really good things about them, started insuring my horses with them recently and save lots of money.
