Sorry for making another thread, but I have a question that will just go unnoticed in my passport-related thread... :o

It seems it's going to be quite difficult to get the ownership details changed to myself on my mare's foreign passport. I am applying for insurance (Petplan), and I'm wondering if anyone has had to produce their passport in the event of a claim? Have any of you not changed your passport details, but have insurance?

Sorry for all the questions, but I always get help with I ask here!

In my experience, insurers are not interested in whos name is on the passport as long as only one insurance policy covers the horse (and therefore only one claim is being made) and the person claiming is the person whos name is on the insurance document.

One of my horses on loan so I definitely don't have my name on that passport. I'm sure the insurers don't care too much who's name is on there as long as the claim is made by the policy holder.

Its only relevant if the company is paying out in the event of loss of the horse. Vet fees it doesn't matter who the legal owner is.

For loan horses, they would normally want to see the agreement to see who gets the money if the horse dies and make sure the passport has the loaners name in it.

Thanks all that's a great help; I'm only insuring for Vets Fees and Third Party Liability so hopefully I should be OK until I can get the passport sorted!
