As I has posted before, friend was hit by a drunk driver on sunday. Police took him so he will be charged etc.

Now.............her trailer isnt insured, and it turns out that her Jeep wasnt insured to tow anything! She didn't know this......she just assumed that when you insure a car you can tow etc. As when she spoke to her then insurance company they said that the trailer would be insured through the car. However, she changed insurance 2 weeks ago and as she didnt question it as it was never mentioned that she was not insured to tow.

So now.........it looks like even though the drunk driver crashed into her, she will not get any pay out for her trailer. Is this right? As even if it was say, just sitting in her drive and a drunk driver drove into it they would still have to pay for it yes?

I am going to give the BHS helpline a call when I have a free min.

It does not cost much to go through the small claims court. The problem is that even if the decision goes your way you are not guaranteed to get your money.

As the police are already involved it might be worth her speaking to them.

Have to say I didn't know that you might not be insured to tow.

That's awful but you have raised a very important here that vehicles are not automatically insured to tow trailers. We tow with a car and swapped to Sainsburys Insurance (yes the supermarket) as it covered the car plus towing etc. The trailer is insured as well as an add on on the horse insurance via AmTrust.
