Evening,

Sorry for another insurance question!

Have got my renewal from NFU and it's gone up a tad! I've been shopping around and at the moment KBIS looks like they're winning.

But as I'm filling in details for quotes I've realised I don;t know much about insurance. When it comes to things like 3rd part liability and legal fees how much does everyone go for? I have no idea about these things; 1,000,000 or 2,000,000 3rd party liability? 10,000 or 20,000 legal fees? These numbers seem so extreme I don't know what the risks and benefits of each are? I would usually just go for the highest of everything (better safe than sorry) but does anyone have any context?

Also; any pros / cons re KIBIS?

Thanks

:)

To be honest, £2million PL is more than adequate - I have never known any equine PL claim to exceed this. When you're talking those amounts you're talking more large warehouse fires, fleet policies where a lorry crashes etc. PL claims with horse insurance policies are generally pretty low. The biggest one I knew was £1million but that was split between two insurers and was due to a car driver having to swerve to avoid a horse that had escaped a field. Driver sustaine long term injuries hence the large payout. Your horse(s) would have to seriously injure several people basically to amount to a hug payout. Most PL claims are to do with horses kicking cars etc as they pass them so are not large claims.

Legal expenses, well we used to give £50K as standard but to be honest I have no clue how much is enough. I imagine anything over £20K would be adequate in most cases.

Yep, even with a 2 year "loyalty" discount (about £24) and the fact that I've never claimed and we're talking about a 6 year old pony worth about £1400 it went up by £80. :(
