As you will know a month or so ago, snoopy wasnt himself, due to a serious infection on his back. This in turn turned him into the devil pony.
Since hes been given the all clear, he has occasionally thrown in the odd nap and rear but not to the extent it had got to.

Its been getting less frequent for the past 2 wks now, i have been able to go to the arena for a week (from the mounting block 5 mtres) without any rearing and spinning round, but venturing out up the road has been a battle.
He did manage to get out of the village last week, but that wasnt without a battle for 5/10 minutes where he just refused to move and would stand up on his hind legs in the middle of the road with cars squeezing past.

Anyway, this evening i hopped on in hope we may get a little further or at least made a point.
We get out of the yard, next to my car, the sod stands right up, and i mean right up, so i introduce him to Mr Whippy, as by know i really cant be arsed with this behaviour. It turns around facing the correct way and away he went. Up to the top of the drive and we snacked and tried to whip round but another little tap and that was it. He insisted on trotting up the main road, and im not a fan of trotting on any roads, but figured it was going forward and so didnt want to put him off.
We reach the mouth of the park, and we hopped up onto the bank off the road, and over the little ditch, snoop was like *great xc* so away we went, walked along a bit and then found a nice grass cut verge and we cantered along there for a bit.
Snoopy was loving this, all the snaking and backward thinking went out of his mind and was really having fun.
I turned around at the top and cantered back along the verge, hes very responsive and wouldnt dream to pull.
We walked quietly home

HOORAH! my pony has regained his Girlie Swot status!

After that took Big Winston out for a similar ride, but over the farm, numb nuts thought walking across wide open spaced field was far too exciting and proceeded to buck and squeal

So BBs is very pleased... i really didnt know if i would get that little bugger out on his own, but we've done it

Thanks for reading.

oo what a little bugger... sounds like some great progress ! Now thats he been out and remembered how much fun it really is, he'll probs forget all about his temper tantrums
smile.gif

Thank you guys.
Yes P thats what im hoping, that he enjoyed his hack and next time he will remember fun.
When we went to Nigel taylors the other week for a lesson, we spent a good 15-20 mins just getting down to the xc field. I only wanted to ride through the water then hack back for my jumping lesson in the arena.
He spent the whole time on his hind legs, but once in the schooling field he shut up, i cantered around, jumped random xc fences through the water - he loved it.
Since that day hes been much much better about doing stuff on his own.

It really had just become habit as before the problems he wouldnt dream of being naughty like thta, he has always been opinonated, but would never rear or nap!

I do think he enjoyed the random canters etc, and popping over the ditches made boring old road work much more fun lol

ooo really .. how is good ol' Nige ??
I used to work at Aston (not for the Taylors but for a young rider based there) a couple of years ago, had great fun there
smile.gif

are you and Snoops at Mattingley this weekend ??

Well done even if you have another set back you know you can get over it now. Rags was an absolute s@@t when I had him for doing that but he will take a novice out on his own now.

Well done! Snoopy really is being a girly swot these days, isn't he!
I can see him polishing his halo right now!

I went for a hack yesterday and met some very scary tyres that obviously concealed an invisible horse eating dragon (invisible to humans at least), which necessitated simultaneous spinning and rearing - Oskar met Mr. Whippy last night as well! When I first got him I had lots of problems with him leaving the yard, but now most of the time he is fine (unless there are dragons around).

I think Snoop needs to give Archie some hacking alone tips - after being a saint and hacking out on his own for nearly two months with just the odd nap thrown in hes now turned into devil horse out hacking
frown.gif

ARGHH!!

Is highly frustrating.
Thats not to say tomorrow or the next day if i was to take him out he wouldnt turn horrid again.
He hasnt got pain/spots anymore, so NO excuse for being a twurp.

Archie has improved in the school tho?

Well done you and Snoops, makes you feel so much better when you get them to do what you have asked!

Typical male, you have to keep on his case!
If he didnt belt up he was being sent sjing lol

You always sound so clam about his little tantrums, I;d be a jibbering wreck.

Glad to hear the wonder boy has done a little bit more growing up and may be realising that this hacking lark is actually the fun bit!

I think if he was trying to get me off, and was gunning for me, it would be different. But this naughtyness is only his character, and because hes actually such a nice horse i dont take it to heart too much lol

You will have to come to visit. Are you going to weezys party? maybe call in on the way home and we can take the two boys out for a nice hack? you can ride Winston if you like
wink.gif

yup the big man is a saint in the school now, does have the odd little wobbler - for example last night there was a trotting pole by the fence that wasnt there the other day which he didnt like

Hacking was really good and he was quite happy going out on his own, not anymore tho - so my friend is coming to 'nanny' us on thursday evening out for a hack
smirk.gif

See i had the opposite lol

Recently at his worst he wouldnt leave the yard with another horse anyway! so that didnt matter, bloody independant git lol

I hope you get to enjoy your hack on thursday hun.
