Another Lucy update.

Laura, I'm sorry to hear Lucy has had a little setback and really feel for you. You've just got to take every day as it comes and cherish the time you spend with her. She is such a little fighter!

Your vet sounds really nice and hopefully he might be able to try loads of different things to stop her bleeding. I don't know anything about the disease she has, but it sounds like it's really rare. Sod's law, isn't it? She must have been sent to you for a purpose.

Thankyou Rueysmum my vets have been amazing through all this as have liphook equine hospital which is where she was diagnosed. Saying this illness is very rare is a bit of an understatement. The chances of a human have it are 1 in 8 million and it's even rarer in horses. Oh well it had to be Lucy that got it she can't have anything normal bless her.

Thankyou MrsMozart.

So sorry to hear this alfter all the progress she's made. She's a little fighter and I'm sure this isn't gonig to be any different.

Thanks clipcloppop but watch the ribs :p

absolute diva thankyou she is being so strong once again and she shows no sign of wanting to give up bless her. My vets are amazed as usual.

Oh Laura, I have no idea where you live but I want to come over right now and give you a big cuddle xx

You really are amazing, your love for your animals is astounding.

Whatever happens to Lucy, there isn't a pony in this world who could have had a more devoted owner.

All fingers crossed that you get that fun summer that you planned :)

Thankyou Ravenwood. As long as Lucy is still here and not suffering thats all i care about. The vet today said if the Amyloidosis is in her nervous system she would prob not be safe to ride anymore. Then he gave me this look of pity. I just said i didn't care if she couldn't be ridden as long as she was stable again. But there is a part of me that hope she can still be ridden. I was going to be brave and take her jumping. She loves it :)

I always read your posts and have followed all your ups and downs. I feel so sorry for you and Lucy so ((hugs)) to both of you - wish I could say something more useful but there is nothing. At least you know people are thinking of you both x

Like I said, we can only be here mind for you and your posts can be from heart-warming to heart-breaking, but never self-pitying. There but for the Grace of God go the rest of us.

If it comes down to it and Lucy can't stay any longer, we'll be here for you then, too. Don't ever feel alone, although caring for an ill pony is a terribly lonely job sometimes. I do know that. Quite a few on here will remember Boodle and her gang and little Trixie, and everything they went through. Lots of advice and support all the way.

Sending you and Lucy hugs.

When I knew things werent looking good for me and Woody I put a massive picture on his stable wall of his favourite thing (cross country and hunting) to remind me (and him) of the good times together.

Laura, I may well be shot down in flames for this.......but...... I have a 6 yr old lab who has the most awful joints (OCD), he is very stiff and I have to manage his exercise very carefully, but, I still do all the things that make him the most excited and happy - ie, riding with me, shooting etc because I have taken the route of letting him enjoy his life over prolonging it.

If Lucy loves jumping and she has a day that she is well enough to do it, then go for it - I think quality of life overrides quantity.

Thankyou Nari, misst and JenJ

toffee44 what a lovely thing you did for your boy. I think putting a pic of hunting up would be torture for Lucy. Although i still havn't told her thats something she will never be doing again :(

brighteyes thankyou again. It's so nice to know i can come on here and have some support. The worst thing about this illness is the fact that no one knows about it not even the experts. Lucy is teaching us how to deal with it, it's just so sad that she can't talk and tell us how she is feeling. It would make helping her a whole lot easyer.

Laura, just a thought. Is Lucy on any supplements other than conventional veterinary drugs? I'm no expert, but have you tried giving her some echinacea? It's a natural remedy which you can get from any horse shop in liquid form and it supports the immune system - ask your vet first though.

I hear where your coming from and if it's not going to hurt her i will do it. She will hate it if she has to retire and she was so excited to be going out on sat. As soon as i got her in the trailer she was wickering and whinnying like mad because she was so excited. She did the whole ride with her ears pricked and a huge smile on her face. She just loves going to partys :D (except the dressage kind :p)

Thanks i'll ask my vet about that tom. She has other suplements to help her gut and for her joints but one to help her immune system would be good as the steroids weaken it.

You are a kind and loving owner and Lucy is a lucky girl to have you to care for her.
These old girls are tougher than you think! - keep smiling and loving her and I hope that she will soon be much better.

Big hugs to you both.

Hugs and vibes for you both. It really sounds like she is a fighter. Keep strong. Hopefully she'll pull through. If she doesn't then you can give yourself comfort that you have given her the best life she could ever have had in your care. keep positive for her. That'll be good medicine in itself. *BIG HUG*

Just caught up with this. Lots and lots of healing vibes for your girl. She's one brave pony with one brave owner and she couldn't be in better hands. xxx

Not much more I can say that hasn't been said :( You are such an amazing owner and you and Lucy are such a great partnership. Sending huge vibes from me and Zoomy pony.

I only had to go through a week of Monty being poorly and that was hard enough so i can't imagine how you feel.

All fingers toes and hooves firmly crossed for you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
