Hi guys! I'm hoping to get a micklem multibridle soon but have a few questions. I love the look of the competition bridle but I want the bitless options, can you get a competition one with the bitless stuff? I hate the ring on the multi and don't really wanna buy one just to cut it off. My pony is currently in a pony bridle but bit is on bottom holes, noseband goes three up and on the loosest setting. Ive had to put a cob browband on because his head is huge. I've looked at sizing guides but none of it makes sense to me. Is the leather quality really as bad as some people say? I'm religious about cleaning my bridle every time I use it and oil it when it looks a bit bad. Also where is the best place to buy from? I'd prefer one without reins cause I've got an ancient pair but they're the best reins ever. Thanks!:)

Bitless attachments - you only get those with the multibridle. You can use the competition bridle as a sidepull bitless bridle though and if you could find the right sort of straps you could easily make the other conversions yourself, but if you want the straps made for the micklem then you need the multibridle.

They are kinda a funny sizing, I have a horse so not much help, but my friend has a small horse with a teeny head, fits cob size most things and she has the small horse/cob size and that fits hers. You can always exchange it if you get it wrong? You can change the browband though so that would be the least important part, I've changed the bridle on my horse sized one as it was too big (and bland and plain and yuck ;) )

I don't think the leather quality is bad at all, in comparison to my stubben bridle the micklem is better. I have taken very good care of mine, conditioned it well and I think that care pays off. The leather is butter soft now.

The reins are horrible, I donated mine to my mum ha! But you do get them with the competition version.

I've a cob who is usually between a cob/full size bridle and standard horse size fits him. I tried the small horse size first but what would be the throat lash strap and the noseband straps were far too small.

Thanks all! Would I be able to cut the lunge ring off or would that look really bad?
It would look really bad! I was hunting for a s/h Micklem on ebay, and one came up in which the seller had done this. It looked awful.

I have the multibridles, and the lunge ring doesn't bother me aesthetically at all.

ETA The multibridle is a brilliant lunge bridle, with or without a bit, so why remove the ring? You instantly cut down on your options if you remove it.

As another size guide my horse is usually on bottom holes of a full sized bridle but is in the middle for everything in the standard horse sized micklem! Hope this helps

Ah, I thought as much. I just don't like the how the ring looks. I suppose it's saving me faffing about with a cavesson so I'll get used to it. I just thought for competing it wouldn't look tidy, hence why I wondered if you could use the bit less attachments on a competition version :)

Hi, if you're interested in buying the competition bridle and are after the attachments. I have the bit less attachments available as my micklem multi bridle went with my horse when I sold him but the bit less attachments didn't and are unused :) not sure if they are compatible with the competition bridle though!

Oh that would be fab! I don't know if the bitless attachments are different sizes though? I don't see why they wouldn't be compatible.

The side pull version of the bitless probably wont work with the competition bridle as it does not have the webbing at the top of the headpiece to slot it through but the other ones that fit lower down will be fine. I too find the lungeing ring really useful and give far more control and seem to cause very little agro unlike a normal lungeing cavesson, they always seem to rattle about particularly if there are three rings on the nose, that really annoys one of mine, he is fine in the micklem for lungeing.
