Fynn is progressing in the gundog training. Yesterday and today there was a pheasant in some setaside land behind a fence, Fynn held a solid point- OK I know the fence probably stopped him chasing it:D but it was a good well held point (I had time to take my phone out of my pocket a snap the pictures both times.)

Hew is a handsome boy. It is amazing, the instinct to do that. I assume they do it naturally and you improve/encourage?

Yes Vizsla's are a hunt, point, retrieve (HPR) breed of hunting dog. They were bred to quarter the field seeking game, when they find it they point it allowing the hunters to get into position for a shot, the game is flushed and if shot, the dog would be sent to retrieve it.

Some dogs will point some won't, its down to the bloodline, it can't be taught easily, if they do point you can as you say encourage the behaviour and hope they get better at it.

Well he looks great. My mum, years ago, had a show bred setter bitch she took with her when her father was grouse shooting. The keeper started off very sniffy at a show dog on his moor but after an hour was saying 'Watch the little bitch' she was such a natural at pointing.

I love your dog.my first st poodle girl had very high hunting drive, and she too would freeze to a point. The last two poodles never have,it's definitely an instinct in their lines, they either have it or they don't.
Chlodah,I bet that was a proud moment!
