Friends horse went to Leahurst last night and has been put down due to having Grass Sickness. My heart goes out to her and her mum as she hasn't had the horse long and Blu was a beautiful blue and white cob who she was bringing on.
Blu may you rest in peace with Higgins. xxxxx

Oh that is so sad, your poor friend

her mum txt sis and then sis phoned back as she didn't want to tell me first as I lost Higgs to this on the 8.5.05. so it's a bit raw for me. Did shed some tears when texting her. Horrible horrible disease

My sister's brilliant little connie cross died because of it. such a waste.

Having lost a perfect mare to GS, I feel your friends loss and pain. Please send her my sympathies.

I'm wondering it it is on the increase or if people/vets are just becoming more aware of it now?

I think vets are more up on it IMO as Higgs had impacted colic and when Leahurst operated they took a biopsy of the gut as they suspected GS. I suppose horses are lost to colic and it's never recorded as GS if not suspected?
