What is the maximum weight you would be happy putting on a 4 year old (broken at 2 as far as I know, not my choice he's just come over from Ireland and I want to buy him so please don't tell me off for that, nothing to do with me!) so 4 years, Irish Cob, 15hh, chunky boy but more filling out to do? Thanks
 
Personally on if he had the muscle to cope. He may be chunky but the muscle & balance still need to develop, so I would say 10 stone. We were planning to back a 3 yr old tb this year (I'm now out of action for a while so that's scuppered), but the planned rider weighs under 6 stone.

Thank you. I'm only 7 and half stone so he'll be fine with me but i've got a line of people wanting to ride him and i'm not sure what cobs carry. I've only dealt with ponies before!
 
I wouldn't be happy allowing lots of different riders on a four year old. He has enough to learn without confusing him with different weights, heights, balance, ability and signals. I'd use a low weight limit as a reason to stop them if you have to.

Agree too! They won't be doing much more then a walk around on lead for 5 mins and only if i'm happy with it! No one but me is going to be getting on him for a while anyway! I've got to get to know him and him me first and find out what he's happy to do. But he's a lovely horse, very willing to please bless him.
 
Why on earth would you let a line of people ride a green 4 yr old even if it is at a walk on a lead. They would all sit differently especially if they can't ride - which it sounds like-. You'd be better letting no one on him until you & he are working well together, or else get yourself an ex riding school cob & your long line of people will probably be just what this cob is used to. Don't spoil a young horse just because you are under pressure from other people to give them a ride.

Totally agree with this, and cptrayes. My 5YO has had precisely 3 people on his back in the 15 months I have owned him: me, and two instructors. Although I was happy with novices sitting on my 17 YO cob, I certainly wouldn't be using my young horse for joyrides.

Totally agree! No one has been on my 4year old other than me and the man who broke him! i dont want to confuse him with lots of different people on his back

Please don't shoot someone down till you know the facts!

The line of people is two and one other who is a great friend who hasn't asked but if he'd manage to carry her I would have been happy to let her.
If 10 stone is the max then he can't carry her and i wouldn't really be happy to let him so that's no longer a problem! I just asked as I don't know what cobs can carry and wanted to check I wasn't just being mean to my friend. (She's a competent rider, as good as if not better then me but with a bigger build so needs a bigger horse).
Second person is my mother - currently with a broken arm. She can't work or drive yet and is signed off for a few months yet! There's no way she'll be getting on him for maybe a year or two or three or five!
Third person another competent as good as if not better then me rider weighing no more then 8 stone. She can't ruin him! She might help him infact!
I'd only keep them on lead for my own happiness. I want to be able to say what they can and can't do cus I'm a control freak like that!
Not gonna defend myself anymore! P.S. Horse is just a happy hacker.
