I'm just wondering if it's worth looking at DIY yards with 247 turnout for Ty? That way I could afford to keep him, he'd be less het up if not ridden one day and I don't have to sell my baby!

What are your thoughts? Anyone got any suggestions for good DIY yards? I'm guessing a school is probably out of the question though.....

I knew you'd say that!

Do you think he'd be ok if I could only ride 2/3 times during the week though? I guess I could still look for a sharer?

So, pretty please someone find me a nice small DIY yard near epsom with a floodlit school - and I'll love you forever!

Yes! I wanted you to do that in the first place!

Would you be ok for time then, at least if he was ut 24/7 you wouldnt need to muck out!

I keept my 2 at DIY, I get a stable and unlimited 24/7 turnout for £15 a week, each.
In winder its £22 a week inc unlimited haylege.

We also have XC jumps, an outdoor school, show jumps and very good hacking.

Im nowhere near you so no idea on yards, but you could maybe look for a sharer to help with the riding?

Definitely. Have always thought to myself that if money becomes a bigger problem than it normally is, I would think about turning them out before selling.

Of course he will be. I expect he couldn't care less.

You keep your horse in the most expensive way imaginable - and I think a DIY yard is just the ticket.

I've been quite upset for you thinking that Ty may have to go. Do look at other options. None of us are made of money, and financially it's a struggle for all of us (most of us). But it is doable.

However, remember that 24/7 turnout doesn't mean only going to see him once or twice a week. It's still a twice a day job.

Do some research.

How far out from Epsom will you go? Is Stoke D'Abernon too far? It takes about 20 minutes to get from HPF/ Saddlecombe to the yard I am thinking of. They have lovely turnout and an indoor/ outdoor school and it is a bout £30 a week PM me if you want more details

That's the problem - I can only get up once a day. Although saying that if I wasn't mucking out and the yard was near it wouldn't be a problem.

Depends on what kind of yard he's on I guess. If he was on private land (like my parents have) we always used to check over the horses in the morning and their owners came up once a day.......

I'm a twice a day girl - so much can happen in such a short period of time. However, you may well be able to pal up with someone who will do this for you, if not the YO themselves.

Parents - Land - I feel a plan forming.....................

The other thing I have to think about is whether or not I really want to continue with Ty or whether it should be with another horse......we've had alot of issues and maybe I need more of a schoolmaster type?

One step at a time. And he will teach you much more than a schoolmaster ever will.

We spoke yesterday - but YES, YES YES YES YES as well - you obviously love him SO much, it comes across in your posts and in talking to you! PLEASE DO IT. He'll be so much easier for you if he's out and if you can find him a fizzy pony or youngster as a companion he'll really exercise himself.

I wish you all the best but please please do see if you can find some 24/7 turnout, it would be so awful for you to find yourself kicking yourself for having let him go.

I saw in horsemart regional (April) that there was DIY in Epsom area but i do not have it to hand

Bear in mind that there are very few DIY yards (or any other type for that matter) that will offer 24/7 turnout through winter.......

[/ QUOTE ]

hopefully I could find somewhere that would offer assisted (if needed) during the winter as I'd be in a better position to pay then.

I think I'd want him in at night during the winter anyway

Hi Stimpy
I have had DIY (just field) livery for around 8 yrs but would recommend getting a stable too if you can - just in case of injury/bad weather/laminitis etc.

There's some very reasonable prices on this thread - mine will be £120 for stable and field DIY, not so reasonable?

DIY rocks and the savings are great - you can spend the money on other things!
Good luck

Yeah I'm thinking of changing my hours and doing 9am start so that I can muck out in the morning. Looking at a yard this evening and should be 247 turnout in the summer so no mucking out (and on 350 acres so no poo picking!)

Oh well we'll see.... x
