This time, my sister's for A2 sports science. It had to show her competing in her chosen sport (eventing!) and this is what she's put together:

What do you reckon?

I dont know as I didnt do PE but maybe less of the trotting round the dressage arena before the test and a few more xc jumps at the end? Unless she has to show that sort of thing but it looks good whats in it already.

Being totally honest it is not great, she can do far better than this from what I have seen previously.
The first 3 minutes are a waste of time and show nothing important, the test is ok but a score would be good.
SJ does not look as smooth as it could but not too bad.
XC seems a bit short, several slightly tricky moments where the horse gets its head up and does not look overly confident, I would add some more flowing simple fences that make them look more of the partnership that they really are, some galloping between fences could replace the beginning to keep video short enough and to make it look like a whole course which it obviously cannot be.

Videographer needs a tripod  The first 3 minutes (and the bit just before she starts sj) is really hard to watch as it's jerking around / she's in and out of shot / cameraman is walking about. I know it's not probably marked on that, but it would make it less painful to watch those sections.

As to what's incuded - the dr is fine, the sj isn't the smoothest but it depends on how it's marked I guess. Some of the xc is nice :)

Thanks. We're on a sticky wicket as it needs to be footage from competitions and we have minimal footage of them performing well at all 3 phases, particularly SJ as he's only just begun to twig what's going on there! XC wise, he's getting pretty established at BE100, but has wobbles.

Will get her to trim the stressage a lot- didn't realise how much there was there of just the go-round! SJ wise, he's very very wobbly still at comps and this was from area eventing. It's the only comp course footage I have really... Would this be a better option?

I'm mostly the video taker... I'm always very nervous for them so my hands shake!! Can't do much about XC- footage of them going from the same event is bloody difficult really- I was running round like a lunatic to get that lot, hence the shaking as well!

I would put this with the other one, if two sj rounds are ok and link the xc together, they wont know if it is a different day, it should not matter anyway as it is at a competition, the part where she gallops past is really nice you get the feel of her really with him which did not show in the first video.
Some clever editing required:D

Knowing my luck, I'll be doing the editing- she has an avid dislike of technology! It's tricky, because for her AS it didn't have to be in competition and so she used her GCSE riding video and then analysed it a lot more, and then some footage of her jumping him in schooling where he's a lot more confident. Unfortunately, she's wearing scruffy clothes for that!

We're currently snowed in, and he's had 3 months off work in a field doing nothing...! So no, not really. It's hard- she can analyse it all she likes, but you can't escape she's riding a green ex-racer who's just moved up a level. If only I'd filmed her on her old pony more- gah!

What are you editing with? You can make a big difference to the watchability quite easily with some programs, though it's a bit fiddly :D

Movie Maker... If you can recommend a better free one, I'd be up for that though!

I wish she could send in this- just the edited good bits!

Depends how enthusiastic you are about learning how to use one :p you could get a month's trial of Sony Vegas, which has much more sophisticated zooming and stabilising abilities than movie maker, but it's not entirely intuitive to use :p

(loving the last video btw)

If it has better zooming, I have better XC footage that's just too far away otherwise on my computer... I will go for a rummage.

That last vid was Al's work entirely and made me and mum tear up very slightly... I can't wait to watch them next season- she's really fun to groom for as well :D

If for any reason you can't get a trial download, send me the footage and I'll zoom it in and send it back iuw :) Any excuse to procrastinate

I'll be very interested to see your updates on their progress next season - she's achieved a great deal with him already...

I would use the 2011 video with some extras from the video above if you have them as reg is currently not fit enough to go make some more videos.

followed the blog... I often miss things on here - particularly in CR :o

Yea if you have an problems, pm me for an email address or something and I'll do it tomorrow :)
