I havent voted because I do compete - but not at the levels you are talking about. I wouldnt compete at these levels even if he was shod but he is by no means "just" a happy hacker.
He does unaff sj, xc, endurance, trec, he is going on his first hunt in a couple of weeks and he does about 5 hours hacking per week.
I feel the poll is skewed to make it seem like if you are not competing affiliated you dont really count.

Ohhhh! I get it now I read it as one related post 
PS is competing her 7 yo TB gelding at PSG, has been doing BD with him for 4 years. He has been barefoot the whole time and is 100% sound on all surfaces.
My 8 yo TB gelding is competing at Elementary, I've only had him since Dec 2011 (off the track Oct 11) and took his shoes off Jan 2012. He is also completely and utterly 100% sound on all surfaces and very happily hacks on tarmac and stone tracks for up to 40 minutes.
