It's hard to believe we've been on box rest for nearly two months now but in all honesty it's flown by so far. We had the vet out last week for a rescan and he confirmed the lesion is healing well and he's extremely pleased with her progress...music to my ears considering where we were at two months ago. She's up to almost an hour on the horse walker now and taking it all in her stride.

What's more, if all continues as it has been we'll be able to begin ridden walk work at the end of the month! I'm beyond excited about this but equally terrified of a) her breaking again and b) getting on a 5yo WB that's been stabled for almost 3 months at that point! Thankfully I have our wonderful yard staff who will play crash test dummies the first few times but then there'll be no stopping me hopping on board. With any luck we'll continue with the hacking rehab until January when we can reintroduce light school work :D

To celebrate I've gone and bought Pops her very first matchy set of her own (all her others were hand me downs from my old horse) so soon we'll be sporting the Esky fresh berry big square and matching bandages.

As always, no Pops update is complete without a picture so this was her greeting me after I'd been away with work for a week. I love this little girl so much!

Thanks all! I know at the beginning of this awful journey I did wonder "why me?!" but I now truly feel this happened to give me more time to get to know Pops without the perfectionist in me setting unrealistic targets and then stressing when we didn't meet them.

The original plan had us doing our first competition yesterday with an aim to start affiliated early next year. It was doable as Pops is a little superstar but I doubt we'd have really been ready for it.

Instead our foreseeable journey is daily walk hacks which will gradually see us build her work up to two hours work a day across hacking and the walker. We envisage we'll start gradually replacing 5 mins of walk with 5 mins of trot around about Christmas time.

At this point it's all about finding a management plan that will work for her, ensuring the tendon is fully prepared for work and then supported during and post-work. I'm under no illusions that this will likely be an ongoing process and she may require further time out for lameness in the future which is why outside of rehab I have no fixed goals or plans for her. And that's ok...I'm just happy she's still with us.

Hi FestiveFuzz great to hear of Poppy's progress thanks for sharing this journey! My horse has had a similar injury and i would desperately like to explore if the Lipogems treatment would work for him. Please can you put me in contact with your vet?
