Another post about grackles

The post below got me thinking, J is a completely b****r in his downwards transitions in that he will 'yawn' when you come down to walk/trot. My trainer longs to put a flash on to stop this habit, but when I tried one he tried to kill me (only a slight exaggeration) He was the same with the drop. So we have just left him with a plain cavesson.

Thought he might tolerate a grackle better as the wouldn't be so concentrated in one place, the only dressage we will be doing really seriously is BE anyway so would be allowed, but what do you think? Would a grackle help at all with this problem? Worth trying?
 
Grackles are great, but I don't use them long term. I popped one on mine for about 2 months, because she was very evasive of a flash, and tried to get her tongue over the bit etc...and it worked wonders, and I've moved back down to the cavesson now. Would much rather a grackle over a flash any day. Deffo worth trying, but then see if you can move back down to the cavesson after a short while, and see what he's like.
 
My trainer will only use a grackle or a cavesson. They are great as they spread pressure over a wider area, and are FAR kinder than any other "mouth closy" noseband. Goddy does now go in a loose flash, but only because i do dressage with him, and he hasnt yet got good enough to go in a cavesson!!
 
I am not a huge fan of flashes tbh, would rather use a drop, but wasnt sure whether the grackle would help, as he doesnt actually cross his jaw, but must do more than the cavasson I suppose

Henry is always in a grackle now, he seems to realise there no point is taking the p**s out of it. It means i can downgrade his strength of bit quite considerably, and after posting the othr day my pony wasnt happy in a snaffle, he magically loves his snaffle now! Just decided to be all soft and nice!
